I am new to Chins and was just looking around for information. I received my pair as a gift from my parents. I think that my female is pregnant and am trying to find information about what I should do. Does she need a special nesting box or anything? Any information I can get is greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

That should cover most of it. Be sure you have a baby safe cage that is no more than 1/2 x 1 inch openings if it is made of wire. Anything larger and they will squeeze out. If you have lots of ledges, remove them so mom will stay down by the baby. You can put them back in after a week or so, but for the first little bit, leave them out.

If she does have kits, a gram scale is really helpful to track their growth. As far as a special nesting box, I just use a regular wood house like I use in all my cages so mom and the kits can hide inside.

Welcome to CnH. :)

Welcome to CnH! Yeah, take some time to read through the breeding and babies section, there's a lot to know, and a lot can go wrong, but good luck with your girl and try to have a good vet on hand in case you do need them!

Welcome, glad you found us! There are lots of very helpful people here so hopefully we can help you along with the process.

Welcome Tammy! Wow, a new pair of chins and maybe a family on the way! Very exciting but do make sure you do some research and you'll have no problems. If you have any questions, please ask away!

Welcome!! If I was in your position, I would take daddy out now because if she ISN'T pregnant, she very well could be soon. Plus, if she is pregnant and has babies soon, daddy could get her pregnant immediately after birth, which would put a lot of strain on mommy. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum!

I love your intro...almost like a Chinaholics Anonymous introduction!

Hi, I'm Susan from Florida...and I am addicted to chins. :D

 Hi
You're introduction to chinchillas is going to be a steep learning curve it seems - I'm glad you found CnH as there's plenty of good information here and lots of experienced and knowledgeable chinchilla owners/breeders/rescuers.
Lets hope your female is not pregnant - do you have a chinchilla competent vet on hand?
