Well I really want to get a pair of chinchillas from a rescue in the future, but need to calculate how much I need to save up. I was wanting to know if two chins could live in a Double Unit Critter Nation with a Add On Unit, so three stories tall. Also the brass pans is what I was going to order, but what exactly do I have to do to them (I have heard you must spray them with something then paint them or something)?

2 chins could definitely live comfortably in a three story CN. The two story is also plenty of space if you want to start with that and then add more on later.

Edit: I'm not sure about the bass pans, I fleeced my ferret nation

I have a two story critter nation and it is plenty big for two chins. Enough room so they can be away from each other at times but they are mostly attached at the hip anyway.

I have bass pans because they chewed the plastic ones. I did not spray or paint them because I still use fleece on top. Im sure someone else will chime in if I am wrong about painting the pans. uploadfromtaptalk1368717182257.jpg

I've never heard of anyone painting or doing anything special to the Bass Pans. I use mine just as they came, I do put fleece liners in them.

That cage is perfectly fine, even without the 3rd tier. I see you said "brass" pans, but I think you meant Bass pans. You don't need to do anything with them, but for bedding you can use pine shavings or a fleece liner with a litter pan in one corner. Its up to you, but the pan itself doesn't need to be treated/painted in any way.

Your cage size is perfect! All I did once I got my bass pans was wash them with water and soap! They were sorta gross when they came in the mail :)

For your cage, make sure you have lots and LOTS of wood! Make lots of shelves and perches and don't worry about ramps. Chins can jump. Boy howdy can they jump! Just today, my little Scotty jumped from the ground near my bed on to the top shelf in the bottom level of his cage! That's five feet forward and three feet up!

Also, figure out what bedding option works for you! There are many helpful threads all over this forum with people's opinions, etc. I love having a fleece tunnel and hanging house for mine, because they love them :)

Good luck and let us know what you decide on and if we can help you with anything else in the future!
