Help! Very constipated Hedgehog!

Any recommendations for a constipated Hedgie? We gave her a warm bath and she was able to squeeze out one tiny hard poop.

My husbands holding her now since she loves to poop on him, but still nothing.

I would suggest some canned unseasoned pumpkin. And try a bath again but let her run around a lot in it.

Other than pumpkin (good one), for birds you are supposed to give Apple Juice and I have used lactulose in the past for my little special needs tiel. Lactulose is available at the drug store.

As Melissa has said, canned unseasoned pumpkin works well. If need be, syringe it to her.

Thank you all for your help. Worked like a charm. She had some nice poops and suddenly has more energy than she has had in days. Poor girl! She's in her room alternating between marathon wheeling and pushing her tunnel all over and chirping away! So good to hear, I was really starting to worry about her. That was our first experience with freeze dried crickets and they instantly made her constipated - we won't be feeding those again!

Freeze dried bugs are not a good idea as the freeze drying removes something that is needed to help digest them. They can cause impaction.

Glad she is back to normal.
