The German Violet is different from the Afro Violet and not like the recessive white to the holder, which is the same mutation. I have several German Violets currently and they are much darker in color then the Afro Violet. Even the lightest German Violet is darker then the darkest Afro Violet. German Violet is also darker then a TOV Violet or Ultra Violet as most know them as. The German Violet has a brownish hue to the mutation which if bred properly can actually be bred out of the mutation, not an easy task but it can be done. I have also bred the German Violet to the Afro Violet and got all standard kits. The German Violet was first developed, mainly, by Gustav Lehmann of Germany. It is thought that the German Violet has in some way developed from the same lines as the Afro Violet but little is known about the true history of the German Violet. In 2005 there were only 5 German Violets left in the world after Gustav Lehmann sold out. I currently have 2 of those original animals that I had shipped directly from overseas from the breeder that originally purchases them from Mr. Lehmann. Not very many exist today but it is one mutation worth breeding and continuing their lines. Other then me there are 3 other breeders working with this mutation at the moment, 1 in the UK, 1 in Germany and 1 in Poland, the UK breeder has the largest herd of German Violets left in the world. I have attached some photos (this is my first time so I hope they work), plus a photo of the 3 week old German Violet next to a almost 4 week old Afro Violet to compare kit colors as babies.
