We're putting together our FN and I was wondering if the holes for the ferret shelves that are in the side walls could be a danger to chins?
If so, how do I make it safe?

Very unlikely, IMO. It would depend greatly on your set-up. If you want to cover the holes, you could cut a stip of wood big enough to cover them, drill a hole through the square frame from the outside that lines up with the middle hole and attatch the wood piece with a screw/washer from the outside in or throughbolt it from the inside out, in which case a hole needs to be drilled through the wood, too.
