Need some advice, I am a new chin owner, I have two male chins in the same cage, large ferret nation, they where purchaced together from the same breeder and in the same liter. They have been housed together for awhile and sleep curled up togethe all the time but yesterday for the first time it appeared that they were fighting, I have never seen them act like this before. They were fighting over one of the water bottles in the cage, they were growling at each other and one appeared like he was biting on the back of the other one. Is this a major concern? What should I be looking out for? Any advice will help

Thanks,

Justin

Separate them immediately! Check both of them over for any bites/wounds and go to the vet if need be, one or both can go into shock and that is not good. I've had to separate 2 pairs of chins for chasing, fur flying and bullying. It just happens, sometimes for no reason.

My wife is off today and has been watching them, I added a second water bottle to the cage, and they have been fine since and she said they are back to there norm, sleeping ontop one another right now, will keep a close eye on them and update you on there status

If there wasn't actual biting going on, more of bickering, then adding the second water bottle may help. But keep a very close eye on them because it can easily escalate. I'd also add a second feed bowl if you don't already have one in there.

If you ever start noticing extra fur laying around the cage that is one indication that they're fighting when you're not watching.
