If there's no change at this point, I don't think you have all that much to worry about. Retained placentas or kits will make a mother chin have a really bad infection in a few days. Your female is just a little open, it isn't really bad. You would definitely be seeing her having some horrible problems by now if she had something stuck in her uterus still.

She's probably going to go into heat fairly soon anyway. She may open up a little more, there may be a little more discharge and then after a few days she will close up more. I've seen new mother chins have their first heat cycle after they have chins four weeks or so later and have more discharge than normal. (I've run them to the vet a few times, too!) The pregnancy along with nursing kits makes things go a little differently than they would if the female was not in breeding, it's the hormones.

Thanks so much for your input Susan. She is only the 6th breeding female that I have that has littered so while not completely new to this I am sure there is a wide range of experiences both good and bad that I have yet to have!

So far - definitely more good than bad (knocking on wood here)! But I am not naive enough to not think that there is plenty of bad out there!

Doesn't this look comfortable???

Tis is how Trixie nurses her kits, sitting on her tail with both back legs spread out in front of her and hunched over like Jabba the Hut! Anyone else seen this?

Tiffany - she could be Trixie's twin - I laugh every time I see her nursing that way! Yours is so funny as well - lol!!!

Her nursing in that position could be a big reason for the smoodge and possibly could be that she expressed her own anal gland.
Also if she had pyo or infection the kits would not be thriving.
