I have a female, about 18 months old, who has become quite feisty towards me. She lives with a neutered male who is around the same age. Recently she started making really low grunting noises whenever I stick my hand in the cage and a couple times she's actually lunged at my hand to try to bite it while making the grunting noises. She's not making the regular barking noise, it's a very deep grunt. He's never made this noise to me before, so I'm not sure what changed. She's always been shy, but friendly. Why has she become so angry/feisty?

If you are certain your male is fixed and she not preggers....do you spend time with her? If she doesn't get handled much she can definitely become this way. She could also be stressed out. Has anything changed as far as her cage, food, anything really. If so, she could be unhappy with the change. Again if its due to not enough attention, the best way to beat this is gaining her trust again. If she is pregnant, the only thing you can do is leave her alone until the kits are here. I would still talk to her, but no physical attention. My females seem to get a little more aggressive towards the end of their pregnancy. I wish you all the luck. :)
