Hi guys, I'm a little down tonight. I had to put my cat to sleep and she was only 2 years old. She had so much life left but I had to put her down to end her suffering. For the first year of her life she was healthy and energetic and beautiful. Something happened, though, sometime after her first birthday. She became allergic to fleas which progressed in a year's time to an obsessive grooming that caused her to lose her hair over her entire body with open sores and lesions. She's been a flea med. during this time, but the allergy just went out of control. She was constantly cold and always looking for a lap to sit on. She would consistently shiver. It was so sad. She recently started vomiting daily, most likely due to all the fur she had ingested. When she was old enough to get fixed I took her in. But again, sometime after a year, that became a problem too. She started going into heat every couple of weeks and then would urinate on any clothing that happened to be laying around. It's just so bizarre that so much could be wrong with one cat who was fine up to a year old.

She was a stray kitten I had brought into my home when she was around 8 weeks old. Her momma was a beautiful Siamese looking stray who was very friendly with me. I had wanted her kitten to have a good life so I brought her into my home. I can't imagine how her life would have been outdoors with a flea allergy and no fur to keep her warm. It's just so heartbreaking to lose a furry friend. I know I did what was best for her, but it hurts just the same.

I brought her home from the vet and buried her in my flower garden where the sun will shine on her and keep her warm.

You did your best for as long as you could, and you're a better person for it! Could have been worse!

I'm so sorry Jenn. I've been dealing with health issues with my old kitty for a while. Watching them suffer hurts so much!

I know you are hurting now, but in time, you will think of her and smile and remember good times...take care...

I am so sorry you both had to struggle with the kitties health issues like that. She is at peace now and was loved while she was here on earth. That's all one could ask for.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's hard no matter what age the animal is. But you said you found it, so try to think of it this way [and i'm sure it won't help much, becuase nothing can really calm the hurt] but you gave her the best two years of her life by taking her in and taking the best care of her that you could of. If she stayed outside and lived, she most likely won't have lasted that long, so you did a great thing for her. And yes it still hurts like I said, no one can take that pain away from you, only time can, and it will. I have had to put many anaimals down [old age, cancer, bad arthritis, etc.], and I miss them all dearly and it hurts so much I cry so bad that I can't even eat or get out of bed. But the pain does go away, and you always have the fond memories of your beloved pet.

Again, i'm so sorry for you loss for I know it too well myself.

Jean

I'm very sorry for your loss Jenn. You know that you tried your best for her, but sometimes it just isn't enough.

I'm sorry as well. Poor little thing was so young. It's so hard to do what you had to do at any age, but you know now that she isn't suffering anymore.

Thank you everyone. I keep expecting to see her and then have to remember that she is gone. I know she is better off, and I know time will make it easier for me.

awww im so sorry to hear about your kitty,
its always so said to hear when a pet dies.
*Hugs*

I am so sorry to hear about her, she is so beautiful and looks so sweet. She is lucky to have had you in her life.

Thanks again, everyone. It has been a couple of days now and getting easier. Last night, though, as I was feeding my other 2 housecats their nightly treat, it hit me again. Sahara got sooooo excited when it was treat time. It's the little things you miss. But I really appreciate the support, we've all been there.

Sorry to hear about your kitty, but she's keeping on eye on you from the rainbow bridge. You will see her again.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat! It's so hard to let go! I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as you mourn!

I can't seem to stop staring at her pictures - a reminder of what she looked like before she became so ill.

Again, thank you all for your kind words. It really helps!
