Nicole, could you post something Craigs List looking for barns who need cats? Explain that these are NOT house cats, but wild feral cats you'd like to get off of your property, so people don't try to take these in as housepets, though more power to them if they would ROFL.

ETA: If you're going to do the 'adopt a cat' thing, perhaps you could see if there's an agency in your county/area of the state that offers reduced SNAP certificates, such as www.pawsofpa.org (that's our 'local' organization). Your local adoption center would know if there is one.

No one in our area offers any sort of reduced anything, I've tried to find some for people who post looking for them on our local sites.

I haven't posted on CL yet, but I have on some of our other local free sites. On problem with our CL is that is it "based" in a town over an hour + 20 away. And despite repeated requests they haven't made one for Kearney ( much closer to me!). I know some people in our area check it though so I will post it there too!

In our town the are no rules for cats so you can let it run all you want we have several in our block that let their cats out to run ( i swear right to my garbage) and several stays then we end up with more strays i was told be my city hall that their is nothing i can do it is illegal to trap in town so they just run and make a huge mess

If it's illegal to trap them, I don't know about it, and I'm not going to bother to ask.

The lady who owns the dairy where my dad used to work said I can drop them off there! They have some others that catch mice and live in the barns. It's the largest dairy between Denver and Chicago!

So far I've gotten one tom, and one queen, still on the chase for the orange one that makes me the most bonkers. But yea, I just put the trap next to my trash can. For the first couple mornings I just kept catching Yorkshire terriers though... how strange. It appeared to be the same one, and looked just like mine!

Which is why I'm trapping, starting tonight BTW! Picked up the trap from mom's. I'm not heartless.
Good for you! I personally don't see anything wrong with trapping them and taking them to a shelter or farm, and if the shelter euthanizes them, well there are many worse things than being humanely put to sleep. Feral cats are a huge problem.

Ferals should ONLY be brought to a farm if the farmer says he wants them. Growing up I knew a lot of farmers that had cats dumped on them because everyone assumed they would take care of them. One farmer believed that orange cats are the best mousers and shot the rest.

I'll never forget when I was real little my mom dumped off a momma cat and her kittens. They probably starved :cry4:

I didn't mean to imply that she should just take cats to any old farm to dump them off without permission. She already said that there was a farm willing to take them, so that is why I added the farm thing in there.

So far I've trapped two, one is a tom that's caused a lot of problems, the other a female who spent a lot of time around here. With just those two gone the problems have decreased immensely. Due to the cold crappy weather we've had I have not yet re-set the trap again, I don't want the poor things to be stuck in there in the freezing all night before I find them in the morning. I'm not heartless as I said.

But I shouldn't have to deal with the endless supply of strays destroying my property either.

People wanting to feed "stray cats" has led to our barn cats being VERY VERY fat. Those darn cats con food out of everyone! I really wish they wouldn't feed them though, because it's taking them away from their "job", even though I know barn cats do tend to wander.
