Does anyone know how what the letters and numbers stand for on the family tree the breeder gave me for my chins?

different letters are mean different things.
ranch name will be in letters. than on the "tree" itself" the letter are the year the chin was born and the number is what number kit it was for the breeder so my last kit from last year was a V14 V being the letter for 2008 and 14 the number kit she was.

It's a pedigree.
The first set of letters you will find is the ranch brand.
http://www.chinchillabreeders.org/brands/ These are the ranch brands.
Then you'll find a letter afterwards, which stands for the year the chin was born in. This year is X.
Examples..
1990 X
1991 Z
1992 A
1993 B
1994 C
1995 D
1996 E
1997 F
1998 H
1999 J
2000 K
2001 L
2002 M
2003 N
2004 P
2005 R
2006 S
2007 T
2008 V
2009 X
2010 Z
2011 A

Then you will find a number after the letter, which stands for the number of the chin. If the chin was the 4th born from a breeder this year, then it would be X4. If it was the 100th chin born, then X100.
