Eye problems?

I called the vet because I was concerned about his eye (it's swollen half shut) and she said to hold off on the antibiotic for a day in case it's an allergy and not him scratching that caused it. I don't really know what to do at this point. :/ I think I'm going to monitor him really well today (he seems to be eating fine; he pounced on the orchard grass hay I gave him) and see how it goes from here. The vet mentioned an anti-inflammatory, would that be a good idea to pick up? Also, can I give him a dust bath to take care of the fur around his eye? It's really damp and that worries me. Or would the dust be a bad idea because it could get in his eye and make things worse? Thanks for the input.

Definitely call them and ask for a liquid eye drop instead of the ointment. I doubt it is an allergy, it is probably just irritating to have goo in the eye. I would try to get the drops started ASAP.
