My chin seems to have an eye problem :( We noticed yesterday it was looking a bit iffy but thought he'd just mushed the fur up around it (He mushes his fur all the time) but today we've been noticing he keeps closing it whereas the other one is perfectly wide and normal. Also the fur around the eye looks a little crusty.

Any ideas? Completely stuck and a bit scared.

It could be an infection, either something stuck in there or an ulcer, especially if it's oozing (as evidenced by the crusties). He should she a chin-specialist vet and hold off on dust baths (which can aggravate it) until he's checked out

off to the vets with him this evening :) He's looking a bit sorry for himself, poor love :(

In the future the second you notice their eye crusted shut, try loosing it up with saline (if you have it) or water if you don't. They can get a piece of saw dust, hair or bath dust in their eye. Just wash it gently and I wouldnt rub at it. Once its been stuck for a while (like yours) I would bring him to a vet because there can be a scratched eye or infection by then. =<

he has a very small ulcer right at the top of his eye :( and has eye drops. Getting the drops into him is proving......difficult....

try using the "burrito" technique. It's mostly used for giving meds and for liquid feeds, but it probably would work for giving eye drops too! Just do a forum search for heaps of good tips.

Hope the little guy gets better soon *sending best wishes*

As Newt said burrito him and gentley hold him between your legs, with one hand place a thumb below the eye and a finger above and gently open the eye, try to drop the eye drop into the "pocket" that the lower lid makes, if at all possible do not drop it onto the eye itself as this can cause damage as well. And if you're really good right after you drop it in after you let the eyelid close... you can hold the inside corner with gentle pressure for about 30-60 seconds to help prevent the meds from draining right out.

This of course can be easier with someone to help you hold, but not everyone has that available.

Happy healing!
