I just realized I've forgotten to thank you all for you kind comments about Edgar.

I talked to my breeder today and asked about possible TOV but he isn't. She is hoping I will show him and I want to so we will probably go to the next show in California. Breeding is still unlikely for us but it would be fun to hang out with chin people and learn to groom Edgar.

He is adorable, whatever his coloring is technically called! :) And good to know that he is spoiled, as all pets should be!

He's an extra dark ebony or sometime called homo ebony but to my knowlege there are multiple dark genes so there isn't a true homo like you would a biege. This means there is no lethal factor if he's bred to another ebony. Please correct me or elaborate if I am wrong.

Also I am not say that just because you can doesn't mean you should.

I wouldn't say he is a extra dark (homo ebony), as homo ebonies will have every hair shiny black. Your little guy has some lighter areas of darker grey on his sides- if he were homo eb, he would be jet black all over.

Since there is no TOV, I would just go with dark ebony.

See how is sides are just as dark as his back? Where as your guy is lighter on his sides. :))

I got my girl from the same breeder you are refering to. She's a Medium Eb, but your guy is a bit darker than she is. Not completely homo eb because the camera wouldn't show his lighter sides. If you want to see her, search Lalita and Rosco. Should come up with her picture, she has a brown tint to her fur.

He is beautiful and has come along so well! I can't help you with what he is... I don't know anything about that stuff, but he is adorable!

Actually I agree with all of you and Stackie's beautiful baby is a very good example of why Edgar is only a dark ebony. I think I just got confused.

It really doesn't matter because as I said before he is a pet first. I'm dreaming of breeding but that will take at least a few shows and another year or two of learning. Even than I am not sure I am dedicated enough to breed so we think our next will be a retiree from our breeder. Of course we have to take the first step which is to take Edgar to a show.

We also think Edgar is beautiful and I kind of like his grey sides as it gives him character. Going to the show will be fun because I will probably buy a comb and learn to groom him. I do a little fiber art and want a little fur to make a ornament with for the holidays. So far they do well with different wools so I can just put a little chinchilla fur down and have a treasure.

YOUR BABY is GORGEOUS!!!! Like Stackie, I also see TOV in some pictures especially the last one. My Lily is an Eb. TOV, but she is a lighter ebony so it is more obvious. I know from experience that sometimes pictures really distort her color and she doesn't always look TOV on camera.

Is TOV a gene that can hide for generations? Or does one of the parents have to display it?

I believe one of the parents needs to be TOV.

As I've said we love Edgar as he is but wanted to know what to call him when people asked. Well mostly because it's nice to know that he has potential. I can't help but to be proud to have such a beauty even though all I did was buy him and care properly for him.

Both Rosco and Lalita are beautiful! Latlita looks like Edgar and I wonder if they are relatives. Hope your two have decided to have kits because I 'd love to see them too.
