Been watching the news all morning on the 8.9 earthquake & tsunami in Japan...absolutely horrible.

My boyfriend's parents are vacationing in Hawaii, so please keep them in your thoughts....I haven't heard from them yet.

I will also be thinking of everyone who lives on the west coast- stay safe! And keep us updated.

I was watching the news this morning, its sad to see all the damage done and i hope everyone is safe and can stay safe.

It is pretty sad to see all the damages and loss of people. The news also said they cancelled flights to Japan and Hawaii. I am praying that everyone keeps safe.

Yes...Keeping everyone in my thoughts & prayers, and Phils parents....We have a friend in Tokyo..Thankfully she is safe.

I think everyone in Hawaii is safe. We have family all over the islands, and so far so good. We are supposed to get hit next (Washington coast) Luckily I'm over by the Idaho border, but thinking of all the friends on the West coat and hope it's nothing serious when it does. My heart goes out to those who lost their lives in Japan.

We're having warnings here, but they don't expect it to be much. I am a half hour from the ocean and our elevation is 30 ft, so I think we're good. Still pretty intense first thing in the morning!

I finally got a call from my boyfriend's mom- they are ok, and high enough up in their hotel that they didn't have to evacuate. They are supposed to fly home tomorrow, but aren't sure if that will happen yet due to the airports shutting down.

There are some Southern California beach communities on evacuation (SLO) and the beaches are closed.

I just (finally) ordered transport carriers for my chins instead of just a cardboard carrier. This is a good opportunity for everyone to make sure their emergency supplies and kits are in order.

My boyfriends dad lives right on the outskirts of Tokyo. Hopefully hes on tour somewhere else right now but if not I hope he is ok.

we've been watching the news since it first aired last night and we were up until around 2 a.m., unable to stop watching what was going on in Japan. What a complete nightmare and tragedy. Then the emergency broadcast system issued a tsunami warning for our area, which the threat is all up and down the western coast. People have been evacuated from the coastlline and the tsunami is supposed to hit at any moment. It's just weird to hear of it so close to home. We're safe here unless the tsunami is quite big...hubby figured we'd have to evacuate if the tsunami was closer to 50 foot high. I had been waiting to hear what happened to Hawaii, but it sounds like Hawaii didn't get hit too bad? Does anyone know what size waves they got hit with?

What a scary and tragic event...wondering if the supermoon has anything to do with this?...

I believe they were hit with 6 foot waves. They predicted 3-6 foot waves for the coast, with California possibly getting hit the the larger waves.

Hawaii is getting hit with 6 foot waves. Nothing big, they've been hit by worse. Keep in mind a tsunami can last for a few hours. It looks like Washington, Oregon and Nor Cal will get hit the worst. We've already started getting hit here. It's nothing big. To be honest it looks like any normal set of waves on a decent surfing day. (Yes I want to go surfing right now) So things in So Cal are good. The beaches are closed, but that is it. There will not be any mandatory evacuation unless the waves get larger. To give you an idea of what it is like in So Cal right now, people are standing at the coast looking at the beach. They are walking around, eating breakfast and drinking coffee. It's just another day with higher water levels.

My thoughts go out to the families in Japan. 6 minutes is a very long time to be shaking.

There's not much happenin on the NorCal coast. The local news is funny... They have reporters stationed at various beaches reporting on the waves they see. They analyze each one "Was that it? Maybe this is it". At any rate they're saying it should be less than a foot which is nothing out of the ordinary.

Of course, the real news story in Japan is horrible and tragic, so I don't mean to make light of that.

That is exactly how I feel. I'm watching the news and everything looks normal. I just heard the wave that hit Japan was 23 feet. WOW!

I originally heard the tsunami wave was 13 feet in Japan, but today they say 23 feet. The footage is just frightening. There is one footage that shows the water moving incredibly quickly across farm fields, cars and houses going along for the ride, and moving toward a road which still had some traffic on it. The picture cuts away right when the wave would hit the cars...I can't imagine what must be going through their minds as they see that wave coming at them!

So happy to hear Hawaii didn't get hit bad, and hopefully the west coast fares as well.

Poor Japan...my thoughts and prayers to everyone...
