I thought that they should be fine considering that many people give their chins banana chips, that have more sugar then apple.

Well...I don't know how this will sound...so here it goes!

Dried apple COULD be safe for a chin, but if you were to feed it, it would have to be maybe once a week and a very very small amount. You would want to only have a small quantity on hand for treats for a chin. Anything like that would have to be fed in extremely strict moderation...almost so strict that it may not be worth giving at all. Many people do not give any dried fruits at all because of the extra sugar. Years ago popular thought was different and dried fruit was given much more freely. Today people will probably tell you to not feed it at all.

I don't know if people still regularly feed banana chips to chins. As
I recall the chins here didn't like them very much, but people used to sell them specifically for chin treats.

If it were me, I wouldn't feed them to my chin. Why take the risk? There are more chin-friendly treats available and I would stick with the safer treats. Really, chins don't need any treats at all.

I wouldn't give any fruit to my chins. Before I knew better, I tried raisins twice a week. Zipper's digestion just didn't seem to handle it well.

As Jenn said, there's lots of healthier treats for them that are easily attainable; I'd stick with those.

Personally I advocate no fruits or veggies for chins whether dried or fresh. Too much risk in killing off good gut bacteria, possible diabeties and other complications. Best to stick with healthy and natural treats. Rosehips are a possible choice. Also items like dandelion leaves that people dry and put in supplements are safe for chins to have in treat like quantities. There are actually a bunch of things that are chin safe for treats, cheaper than apple chips and better for your chin. Some of them are actually *good* for your chin but your chin doesn't have to know that! Also, store bought apple chips typically have oils and such in them. I know because I adore apple chips and can not have most of them as they all are made with sunflower seed oil which I am fairly allergic to (odd allergy I know).

What about dried cranberries and papaya? I give them to my boys once in awhile, I thought cranberries were good for them in moderation and the papaya was good for flushing fur out of the intestines.
Pls correct me if I am wrong, I will stop giving it to them.
I have tried giving my boys rose hips, but Elmo seems to choke in the seeds sometimes, so until I get my hands on some crushed rosehips, I won't be giving anymore to them.

No sugar, the chance of having to deal with bloat is SO not worth it, for you or the chin. Apple sticks are a much better choice to treat a chin. Not to mention that chins get cavities just like humans, cavities can lead to infection and tooth loss, tooth loos can lead to malocclusion, which can lead to death. Is it really worth it people???

Dawn, I am with you on this one. I do not give any fruits to my chins. I would rather give them something that is safer and isnt known to cause bloat (even a slight possibility of bloat isnt worth it to me)

I am really not sure on papaya... I have never fed it to a chin and personally wouldn't risk it as I believe the sugar count is still fairly high. Cranberries I would definitely not feed to a chin. They have nearly as much sugar as raisins and if you are buying them in a typical form for humans there is probably sugar added to them as well. As Dawn said it's totally not worth the risk. Bloat and stasis are very painful for a chin and hard to treat. Sometimes it requires handfeeding a chin around the clock every 2 hours. It's like having a new born baby, except chins won't wake you with crying. You'd have to be dedicated enough to get your butt out of bed and care for them. Depending the chin it can take 30 minutes to an hour to get the right amount of Critical Care into them. Rolled oats, unfrosted shredded wheat and plain cherrios are good treats and easy to find. Stick with one of those or as Dawn suggested just nice apple wood sticks.

Well it sounds like i will have to stop giving them to him. He loves them so much. Oh well. I will find a good healthy replacement. He was getting them only when it was time to go up. I have been using them as a training tool. If i shake the apple treat container and say "its time to go up" he jumps in his cage. It has been working so well, no more chasing or hiding when play time is over. But i love him and dont want to kill him with kindness.
