I almost never let my dogs into my room where my chins are. My doxie is fine with my chinchillas, and they are fine with him, but my rhodie mix, I'm more than sure she would try to kill them. I went out to grab the shop-vac so I could clean the cage out very well since my boys decided they are BFFs now, and I guess I left the door to my room open a bit and Nola got in there. When I came back I expected to see her attacking my chins through the cage. But what I saw were my 2 boys cuddled up sleeping in their tube, and Nola almost finished cleaning up the poo and hay around the floor. It was almost spotless, wet, but spotless :) I don't think hay is going to give her an upset tummy, nor is the poo. She is now my chin mess vacuum, and I'm sure she will enjoy that task. Dogs are gross sometimes, but you gotta love them.

That's true. I half expected it from my dachshund, because he loves poop. Nola has never eaten poop before. I guess she is experimenting for now.. gross

my parents dog (25lb g. Shepard/Border collie/ corgi??? mix)would jump in my g. pig cage and followed right behind the piggies with her nose to their butts and waits for the piggie beans!

my chihuahua eats the poo all the time and i think my lab does too.

my catrs like timothy hay but they eat large amount then puke it back up in the room!!! its so gross you think they would learn.....

My dogs enjoy it, too. As far as I know it won't hurt the to eat it. The only thing that my vet told me to do was make sure that they didn't eat too much of the actually chinchilla food pellets because that could make them sick (diarrhea or throwing up, that is.) My Joey dog loves Mazuri and constantly eats it off the floor should the chins throw some down there. Dogs are gross...

My 10 year old dog comes out to the chin building with me everytime I'm out there. She thinks chinchilla poop is a food group, she loves it.

my dogs also think chin pellets (those that go in the chin AND those that go out of the chin) are GREAT. I also have to gate the cats litter boxes or they would 'raid' them also. Dogs are gross with their eating habits

i dont think my dog has ever tried to eat the poo that falls out of the cage. i think i wish she would so there would be less cleanup!!
but i keep a garbage can by their cage that i empty after each cleaning or at least every night and it contains paper towels with urine that she will try to shred.

My friend's Aussie used to come over and clean up the poo for me. My little min pin , on the other hand, only eats the feed and leaves the poo.

haha My Dachshund wont touch the poo, he looks at my Rhodie like she's an idiot:hilarious:, but she gets the job done

Our chihuahuas won't eat the chins poo but when I was in Gulf Shores, I had an emergency and had to call and order a few pounds of chin food to hold the chins over until the mill where I get my food from got my food in. Anyways, when daddy was fill the food storage container, some food hit the floor and our chihuahua Buffy ate it.

I agree.... dogs eat some nasty stuff. I have 2 very large dogs (great dane mix and mastiff mix). My great dane eats the chinnie poos that fall to the floor all the time, but my mastiff mix won't touch them. It's so icky, and I am constantly having to tell him to stop it. lol. He eats ANYTHING though. 155lbs and still acts like he's starving. lol

I have a dog that constantly eats poo/shavings/pellets off the floor. She will only touch them when I'm sweeping though as if she was trying to "help" me, lol.. its comical yet very gross!

I have an Australian Terrier that will sit at the chin door in hopes that I will let her in....just so she can eat the poop...and I have 2 doxie puppies that will eat their poop (it's like a race to see who moves faster...me to clean it up or them to eat it) then they will puke it up and then eat that....they are sooooooo gross.....they don't even know the chin room exists yet but I can imagine how excited they would be if they ever could get in there......I just can't wait until they catch on to the house breaking
