I wash a load of water bottles every 3 or 4 days since for now I have about 70 chinchillas out in my shed. I'm watching my friends herd of 36 on top of my 34. So for giving the chins water I have about 30 extra water bottles that I can just clean and fill to replace the water bottles in the shed (makes it so much easier on me!). So here are the pictures I got...

the tops to the bottles get washed by hand so that I can make sure the tubes get cleaned...

and then when they're clean I do a lineup of bottles on the counter to fill with water which looks like this...

Haha that looks like a job in itself! I only have 3 bottles to clean and I do it once a week..can't imagine doing that many!

Yep, mine looks exactly the same way. I use those same bottles and line them up on the counter too! I use a bottle brush first and then they go into the dishwasher for a high heat wash.

Mine looks like that only taller. My bottles are 26oz. I'm debating switching over to all 16oz so I can fit them on the top shelf of the washer too. I make my 9 yr old unload and refill the bottles as one of his chores.

Oh goodness Susan! I got the idea to take pictures from that time I got to see a picture of all your dishes in the dishwasher! I've never seen anything as loaded as the pictures you put up on CnG a few years back, LOL!

Sumiko...we have a relatively new dishwasher so it has an "anti bacteria" button that just pretty much burns the bottles, lol. I love that I don't have to pre-scrub with this dishwasher!

Ayup - 165 bottles, just like that, every week. Plus I have 26 blue water jugs from Wal-Mart that I fill with reverse osmosis water sitting in my kitchen every day.

<sigh>

I'll stick with my 3 water bottles!

Funny story... I once decided it would be a good idea to clean a glass bottle by putting it in a pot of water and bringing it to a boil. It would have worked well, except that the laws of physics and thermodynamics escaped me for a moment and I cooled it by placing it under cold tap water... oops!

I have 130 bottles that I clean by hand... LOL You don't know work. :p (I'm just kidding...)

Up until a few weeks ago, I was right there with you, you poor soul. Then......I went on Craigslist a few months back and found a built in dishwasher that was only 5 months old, but the wife decided she didn't like white after all and wanted the kitchen to be chrome. $75.00 later I had a darn near brand new dishwasher and much less cracked skin.

Of course, it took me 4 months to find someone here in east BFE to install it <rolls eyes>, but at last! I have it!

It was well worth the the wait too, because now I can sterilize everything without needing to go to a burn unit anymore when I'm done.

My three little hand-washed bottles soaking with bleach look so simple sitting on my counter.

I just don't trust the dishwasher. I like cleaning them though...but I am weird - bleaching them and then making sure that they are rinsed properly just makes me feel like I have accomplished something. :)

Oh yeah, that's all well and good. The dishwasher is still loaded with other chinchilla things like crocks and tiles and whatever else is washable. Dishwashers are a wonderful tool for sanitizing those things. I'm just weird about my waterbottles. The dishwasher can't clean the nozzles as well as I can. :)

That's why we wash the tops by hand. Only the bottles go in the dishwashwer. That's enough accomplishment for me on top of everything else I have to do. :)

By the way, I don't know why I never thought of it until someone pointed it out to me, but craft pipe cleaners are awesome for cleaning out those glass tubes. They make them look all shiney and new!

:impatient:Rub it in lady! LOL I have 4 kids and what feels like hundreds of water bottles and no dish washer either. I have to sucker the kids into helping me with monetary bribes!
