Do hedgies smell bad?

My brothers girlfriend wanted one then decided she didn't want one because they have a "smelly" odor. Is this true or does it depend on the condition of the cage?

Hedgies don't have a "smelly" odor themselves, they do have a distinct smell to them but it isn't very noticeable. As for their cage you do have to keep fairly clean otherwise you will get that "smelly" odor that you talk about

Mine doesn't smell, yes the poop and pee smells as you would expect, but the hedgie itself does not smell. Some (not all) hedgehogs can be litter trained which makes them alot easier to clean up after.
