"Digging" on my hand/arm, teeth grinding?

So, I have only had my chinchilla for 2 days. So, it's hard to establish what his behaviour is for me, and since he is getting much more comfortable, I'm starting to see more of his personality come out.

So, he will dig his paws onto my hand or arm and nibble at me and then he started grinding his teeth a bit, I wasn't sure what that was so I just backed off a bit but he didn't appear to be upset at all.

What could this behaviour be? Is he just hyper or nervous or is something else wrong?

Please help. I worry.

Yep, it's called grooming. They'll nibble at your skin, but for some reason seem to really like hair and fingernails.

My chin really loves my toes! OMG...it is so hard to let her groom them for me...it tickles so!

My boys love toes too! They will be running around like mad and suddenly run up and start nibbling a toe. They also groom our flipflops too, just the flipflops though no other shoes.
