I may just be a hover parent but Sonic didn't eat anything at all last night. He ate his mealie, but with a little less vigor. He didn't drink much either. Usually his water bowl is thrown across the cage and his food bowl the same, and they weren't touched. Am I just being worried for no reason? It's out of character...

Is his cage warm enough? Has anything changed? Had you counted his kibble to know he didn't eat anything or are you just going by the looks of whats left in the dish? If you didn't count, start to do so.

You'll need to start syringe feeding him or offer him foods until you find something he will eat. Fatty liver disease can start quickly if they stop eating so you want to get food into him by tomorrow at the latest.

His cage is as warm, if not a touch warmer, than usual but he has been in another room since Thursday night, but he ate fine Thursday night and Friday night. I didn't count his kibble but he ALWAYS tips he bowl over to eat (one of his many lovely messy habits) and it wasn't touched and was still full.

I plan on syringe feeding him tomorrow morning if he doesn't eat tonight, and then I'll get him to the vets ASAP.

Also- what kind of food should I use to handfeed him? Wet cat food? What kind?

I am currently using Innova Regular Cat & Kitten canned cat food when I syringe feed. I smash it with the back of a spoon, and suck it up in the syringe. It works pretty well. I smash it because it does have tiny chunks of carrot in it that can get lodged in the tip of the syringe. They break up easily though. Occasionally it needs just a little water added to it to make it syringable, but usually it doesn't.

I also use Hills a/d, available from your vet. It is also another popular variety and is designed to be syringe fed. I prefer the store bought stuff though as it has better ingredients, and is easier to get.

Thanks :) He did eat a bit last night, a little less than half of his bowl. I might try to feed him a bit of the food you suggested to see if I can get him going again. Thanks :)
