Well...everytime I clean cages I've got about 40 cages to clean right now. As soon as I finish all the chins go to town rolling in the clean shavings and they end up knocking themselves out. Here are some of my crazy babies playing dead.

This is a homo beige boy, Bison...

This is a sapphire boy I'm watching for a friend named, Easy....

my kids do the same thing! its always funny to watch them. however not so funny walking in with them playing dead.

Oh my! My heart starts beating a little faster just seeing those photos! Makes you wanna poke them.... just in case!!!!

Haha, you got me, I thought this post was going to be in the memorial section, geez, look at those babies, my heart would stop for a beat if I saw one of my boys doing that.

Oh my gawd. When we had Trixie just a couple of months I was off work, and was working in my office. Came out for a break, and the first thing I saw was Trixie lying like this in her wheel. Paniced a bit..and went right up to the cage. Suddenly she sat right up and looked at me as if to say "hey..I'm trying to sleep here". I had a good laugh over that.

ok you darn near gave me a heart attack with that title!
since i got the fleece tubes, my one boy sleeps so soundly that i get scared and wake him up!!
here is one of him, his eye is kinda open but he was in that position SO long, i had to tap on the cage.
it is not super clear, but you get the idea!

too cute i like it but hate it when they play dead, i remember the first time i saw Chinny do it, talk about a heart attack...dam things do it to us on purpose...

I found one of my girls just the other day that I thought had died. She was lying completely on her back in the back of the cage. She was sound asleep. I opened the door and poked her and she popped up. I thought for sure she was dead though. Never seen a chinchilla sleep on their back before..it was a hoot.

Okay.. you got me too.. I thought this was going to be some freak accident.. lots of dead chins discovered, etc.. Thank goodness it's the cute version of "dead chins" !!

Phoenix used to give me a start like this.. goofy boy! Now, the girls ..especially, the "stinky" ..Palay. She lies schnuzzled up to Obsidian.. with her feet either sprawled out and halfway hanging her head off the ledge ..or with feet up in the air.

i have to poke my prego chins because they sleep in such weird positions - then they proceed to kak at me for interupting their beauty sleep

i think they definitly do it on purpose. i have 3 of them that give me a heart attack on a regular basis.

I agree. My boys do this sometimes and just as I am in a panic... they will pop their head up like "Mom what they heck are you looking at... leave me alone!! "

When I saw 'Dead Chins', my heart sank! Shame on you for doing that to me! Either way, those are adorable photos of strange chinchilla antics.

I have had chins that I have taken out of the cage completely with their little lifeless bodies in my hands only to have them jump up out of their dead sleep. Every that happens it takes two years off of my life.

Once I had a chin that was sleeping so deeply that pulled her out of the cage, had some time to freak out because I thought she was dying and I placed her on the floor so I could sort out what was happening. She was on the floor for a good 20 seconds when she sprang up and stared at me with this evil "HOW DARE YOU" stare. I had to go sit down for a good 20 minutes while I sobbed because I thought she was going to die, it just turns out she was a very sound sleeper.

Oh, and Tammie, one of my favorite chins, slept so soundly in her cage that I was screaming at her "TAMMIE!! ARE YOU ALRIGHT?!" very loud and I got no response. I shook the cage...freaking out. Still nothing..then I went to pick her up and she popped up all excited with that "Treat now?" face.

I am going to die early because these chins have shortened my life probably by at least a decade with their sleep of the dead that they do...

Chins...

LMAO!!! That is just all too true. Everytime I see an unexpected "dead" chinchilla...like a beige girl that likes to hang the front half of her body off the shelf and have her mouth hanging open. I get a huge adrenaline rush and I have to do breathing exercises!

Too cute!

LMAO!! The first night I had my chin he did this on the living room floor! Good grief! I started freaking out and even started to cry,I was all upset and bawling,I thought I had killed him,by over heating after letting him run around for 30 min, with the furnace off and it was -30 outside! My hubby rushed over to pick him up and that silly chin pops up,looking around like "what IS your problem?" My kids still make fun of my overreacting and imitate and tease me all the time. Little buggers!
