Thanks Brittany. I will have to look into that. I have never heard of Fuzzies Kingdom...

Dream - Thanks for the info. I would love to have six years with him at this point. The vet I talked to sounded like she wasn't sure he would be around for his next blood draw...

Saphire - What is Lifeline?

Andrea - I PM'd you!

So Ari has an appointment with a different vet clinic Friday morning and I am really hoping that they can do something for him.

So Ari saw his new vet this morning and I was, for once, very happy with the visit. She loved him and was able to get a urine sample without doing a cysto; he leaks enough that she was able to get it into a syringe case. She looked over his recent x-ray and blood work and said that his BUN was not nearly high enough to indicate kidney failure. She said it is possible that he has kidney infection and if the urine culture comes back as such she will treat with a different antibiotic. She did say that it could have been high because his system was run down from the 1 1/2 courses of Baytril and that since his major peeing has cleared up and he is only dribbling, she says it is possible that he could just be leaky, due to his plumbing. Otherwise she suggested changing his food from PRCS to a Chinchilla food, Oxbow, and trying to get him to eat a mostly hay diet. I picked up the Oxbow and a bale of hay (timothy and orchard grass mix) today, so he should be all set food wise. He was 554 grams today so he is still gaining weight. She also said if the urine is clear that I can just continue to monitor him and we can do blood work in a few months to double check that his levels are normal. I am ecstatic that at this point he is not dying and hoping that he is just a little incontinent and nothing more. He turns one next week.

You might want to PM Essentia here about the care of a incontinent chin, the area needs to be kept really clean to prevent urine scald and nasty infections.

Thanks Brittany!

Thanks for the heads up, Dawn. At this point he is dribbling, yes but not on himself anymore. His butt and underside have been clean since his UTI cleared up. I am putting some chin-safe cream on his feet since he had spent months prior to that peeing on them. If anything changes, I will try to track her down. :)

I'm happy about his progress. At his worst after the Baytril he was 464 grams, so he has gained over 100 grams since earlier this month. Still waiting on the urine culture but am hopeful this time.

I heard from the vet today and Ari's urine culture came back negative, so no infection! The plan is follow up blood work in 2-4 weeks to make sure that his kidney values went down but otherwise I may (cross your fingers) have a healthy chin. =)

Thanks. I'm ecstatic. =) So is Ari.

Update 2/24/12

Ari had his second visit with his new vet today and follow up blood work. His kidney values were perfect. He is definitely _not_ in any form of renal failure and is perfectly healthy. Today he was 595 grams!
