I can't see pictures either...
Now a little off topic, but today I went to the petstore, just a weekend tradition...and there were tiny baby chinchillas. The sign said they are 3 months old, but I got my Simon(pink white) from a breeder when he was 3 months old and he was about 3 times the size of these guys. Anyway, the lady said they aren't tame but I asked her to open the cage, and one jumped right on my hand and snuggled up under my chin...of course I fell in love. I have been thinking of getting another. I've never seen his color before though. There were 3 litter mates together. One standard, and 2 this color. Kinda silver/tan. I know babies darken as they age right? So maybe he's a tan? His eyes didn't seem to have red...but then again I am used to my pink white. (I also have a mosaic, and a black velvet).
Anyway...I'm in love w the little guy...I was also wondering if a FN cage is ok for 4 chins? They seem to have plenty of space plus some w the 3 in there.

Here are some updated pictures of this little pink-white boy. He is three months old now and has more beige veiling than a few weeks ago when I took the first pics.
The lighting in my chinroom is terrible and it was too hot to take him outside, so he looks a little darker than he actually is, but the pics are better than the last ones.
He got himself wet with the waterbottle while I was trying to catch him, it looks like chewed fur, but it`s just wet.

I would say he is a light **** beige. Just isn't a dark little guy, but I have had the odd really light **** beige born before, so definitely not a surprise.

Definitely not a white. Is cute though!

yea I had a rescue a few years back that looked exactly like that. I couldnt tell what he was because he wasn't as dark as typical **** beiges. He looked basically creamy white. He ended up being a **** beige. So its the same in my opinion. A very light phase **** beige.

He does look like a light ****-beige in those pics, but he is lighter than the pics show. I took some new ones outside this time, where the lighting is a lot better, please let me know what you think now.

I say breed him to a std and see what ya get! He's certainly a nice enough looking boy to do so.

Sometimes I see color on the tip of the tail, and sometimes I don't, it just depends on the picture. Generally a white ( pink or otherwise ) will always have a white tipped tail....

Send him here Claudia. I'll let you know what he throws.............:)

Lol, I suppose breeding him will be the only way to know for sure. But even if he would throw white babies I still could not be sure if he is a recessive white, a goldbar or just a freak of nature. I looked at some pics of both recessive mutations and as of right now he does not look like either one. His veiling just does not look the same, but he is young, that might still change.

Patience is not one of my better virtues and I don`t like that I might just have to "wait and see" lol.

Rec. whites are actually a beige, they get lighter with time, not darker.

If it was a recessive gene his offspring would actually be carriers, so you'd have to bring a daughter back to see if that shows any color.

Is it possible that someone was loose and the mystery baby really has a different daddy?

Thanks for that information Nicole, I did not know that. So recessive whites are born beige and lighten up to look like the chin in the picture?

Of course you are right, I would have to find a female carrier to even find out if he is a recessive mutation, I don`t think I want to get into that. But it was suggested to me that the Sire is actually a white, but phenotypically looks like a ****-beige.
I don`t know what I want to do, I don`t really have the cagespace to experiment around with him.

There is no way another male could have gotten to her, I breed in pairs and no other male could have gotten into her cage or even close to the bars.

I would still say a **** beige. Like I mentioned, I have had the odd ones that light in color, out of a het beige and **** beige pairing before. They would get darker about 6 - 8 months of age and be more obvious that they were **** beiges by then.
His eyes don't match up from either pics, to that of a goldbar's eyes. They look like the regular jelly bean red eyes of a **** beige to me.

If you're still unsure, breed him with a standard. If you get hetero beige babies, then you know for sure he is a **** beige. No question to it.

I'll help get him to Peggy... I'll hold him about a year first, lol

Could be very light beige, dad could have a mystery white spot... could be a new mute...

How many litters have you had out of this male?

Thanks everyone for your replies, I appreciate it.

Nicole, I would have to look it up, but I think this is the Dam`s 6th litter, all with the same Sire.

Hey! You don't get to HOLD him on his way here!

Besides, Claudia can just deliver him to me herself at ECBC Nationals. So there!
