Is this a good place to order stuff from? http://www.forchinatechins.com/chincessories.htm

She has good prices and a lot of items. If not, is there somewhere else with comparable prices? A lot of websites I'm going to seem to be out of business.

I'm trying to find cheap toy/bridge parts, maybe some wooden ledges (Though I may wait on those til I finish my homemade ones), and wooden hideys. Just anything really!

you should contact Christine (twilightchinchillas) or Christiane (saphire)

They sell lots of chin items:)

I've never ordered from her, but I know she's been around for awhile. There are several people who sell different items depending on what you are looking for. :)

I've never had an issue with that site, but other people have. They have placed orders that don't come for a month and have difficulty getting in touch with the owner.

I have ordered a lot of stuff from her and never had any problems, but I know that there are people on here that have had problems. If you are willing to try it, like I was, you may find that you like what you get. I am very satisfied with everything I have purchased from her and plan to buy more from her next time I need something else. But like others before me have said, there are a lot of sellers on here that have good prices and good stuff. You just have to do a bit of browsing. :))

I'm sure some people have had success with her, but for me, A)Others have had excuse after excuse from her and B) I refuse to buy from someone who sells items that are not safe for chinchillas.

Check the classifieds section and see what you come up with :)

I am one of those people who had a so/so experience with ForCHINate chins. It took a few emails to get a hold of her, though once I did my stuff got shipped out pretty fast. That part didn't bother me too much.

But then when I get my "New Chin Gift Assortment" I notice the package of dried cranberries. I had seen that on the site, but because she's a chin rescuer I assumed it was safe. But I had recently read on this forum about never giving a chinchilla any sweets/sugar. Sure enough, that includes dried cranberries.
:err:

Needless to say, I won't be purchasing from her again (unless she takes that out of her products). It simply isn't right to sell something that isn't appropriate for a chinchilla's health.....ESPECIALLY when new owners such as yourself and I are putting trust into these suppliers.

Do yourself a favor and buy from people on this forum. There's a reason they're so well-respected, and often times there's a reason that other stores are so cheap ....:frown2:

Thank you so much everyone! I've contacted a few people on here, and am trying to place orders from a few different places. :]

I've ordered from Carise before and she was very speedy about getting everything out. I also hear that her wooden items (like the houses and the hay boxes) are very nice. Though I have heard it's harder to get a hold of her now.

Though, to reply to what some other people said about her selling unsafe items, there are people on this forum who sell unsafe things as well. I've seen people selling wet cob/ sweet feed, horse treats, goji berries, dried fruits, and items made with or dipped in molasses. While I do think chin-specific suppliers shouldn't carry these items, I also think owners need to be up on their research. The forum doesn't endorse everyone or anyone who sells on here, so it's up to us to know what is safe. If you're unsure, you can always post on the forum and ask if something is safe or not ;)

Just a word of warning, since I've seen unsafe things sold here too. When in doubt, ask the forum before you buy ;)

I've gone super basic on everything so far, just hay/pellets and shredded wheat. I've seen so many treats and cookies offered that I don't know where to start!

Well, strictly speaking, treats aren't necessary at all. That said, there are okay treats and unsafe treats. Rose hips are generally considered a good idea occasionally b/c the high levels of vit C in them help chins use the calcium in their hay. I also use an assortment of hays (orchard grass, oat grass, etc.) as treats, and offer occasional herbs as a treat (oat tops, dried rose petals, etc.). I think an item with minimal natural sugars and high concentrations of vitamins/minerals makes a better treat than a Cheerio or oats rolled in molasses. Twigs, sticks, and chew chunks/nibble toys are the safest way to go if you want something to hand your chin, though. They'll ALWAYS need to chew on wood; they probably don't need a chunk of horse cookie.

As for ordering from Carise, I do so regularly. But, there is likely to be a delay now b/c of her schedule (kids in school, elderly family). The woodworking her husband does is awesome. I STILL have one of the houses I bought from them 3 or 4 years ago, and while its nibbled, it's his favorite place to hang out. I don't have the heart to take it away longer than necessary to clean/sand it (and of course the first thing he does once I put it back is pee on it :( ).

I just received an order from camphor chins (click on the sponsor banner) and am very pleased with everything. Just after I placed the order, I received an e-mail regarding the status and then received another e-mail when the items were shipped. Her fleece items (I ordered a fleece tunnel and hammock) are fantastic, the treats are fresh and smell great, and the loofahlover toy was well received by the chins. I will definitely order from her again and highly recommend her web site.

For the sake of keeping this from turning into another thread about this seller that we already have on the forum, I am closing this down. If you have any questions regarding what to order, you can make another thread. If you take a look in our chin supplies section, you will find a list at the top of the "Grand Master Supply List" - all that are listed should be reputable sellers. We wouldn't allow links to websites/sellers that aren't reputable.
