To poop? Or not to poop? HOW MUCH is my question....
I finally got storm to a good place where she eagerly comes to the door of her cage and happily jumps out on to my arm. I can carry her around the house and she loves perching on my shoulder :) now she waits for me to put her down so she can run about!

I noticed today that she has been pooping more than when I got her. In the course of about 35 min I counted 25+ turds! :vomit: All over me on the floor and just everywhere... is that normal?? The poops are not runny and generally the same overall size and shape. They dont stink...there are just ALOT ... I am feeding her a food that contains the timothy hay and made from ingredients like that from what I can tell. I dont feed her any additional hay because supposedly its in her diet already.

Chinchillas poop a LOT. Anytime Marble sits in one place for a while, there will be a pyramid of poo where she was sitting after she hops away.

Chinchillas poop. It's normal and it's no reason to worry unless it is runny/smelly/slimy/small.

As for your feeding - loose hay or hay cubes are beneficial for wearing down teeth. I know of ranchers who never fed loose hay but it isn't going to hurt her to have more - it's good for her dental health as a rodent.

Sounds like a normal chin ;) Feeding loose hay, as already mentioned, helps wear down a chins ever growing back molars to help prevent spurs and other tooth problems down the road. While some ranchers don't use it, their chins are also weeded out meticulously for malo problems while the majority of chins people actually buy (from pet stores, kijiji, etc.) have not been. Feeding lose timothy hay won't hurt, it will only help!

Not only are loose hays (alfalfa, timmy, orchard, oat, bluegrass, botanical) benefical for the reasons mentioned above but it also helps with boredom. My girls love to forage for herbs and twig bits in their hay. They play in it and they are so cute trying to find that perfect piece for a snack.

My chinchillas poop non stop and while it is poop it's not like a litter box. Chinchillas are herbivores and their poop is actually very clean compared to most other pets. We just sweep up what we can and wash hands if we touch it.

I suspect chins poop more when they're having playout time....maybe the exercise gets their insides moving faster?!
