Hi,

I am looking to buy or make some new toys for my chin Mischki for her outside play time (outside of the cage). I am looking for suggestions, links to website stores that have good toys, etc. Thanks!!

I have fleece tubes on the floor for them to use as tunnels. If you're not mounting them to the cage you can use metal airduct tubes. They're not as heavy, and you can buy individual tubes instead of an entire PVC pipe. If you're interested I could make them for you. Let me know what you're looking for and I could give you a price quote.

I do the same thing with my tubes not attached to the cage. I also bring out an old hidey house that is not in the cage. You can also toss a few sticks in your play area.

I've considered cutting up the extra cardboard we have and making a fort out of it. If it's nice enough, maybe use the cardboard plans to make a wooden pine version. I adore the chinnie chew chew from simplychintastic, but as that site is not availible, it has become a diy project.

i use cardboard boxes that i've cut doors and windows and skylights out of, lol. i've also used elmer's glue to glue a bunch of long cardboard panels i had into a tunnel that Rhino loves to scurry through. another thing i do is take a spare pine board (destined for more cage shelves someday) and lay it across two cardboard boxes of the same height, turned upside down, to make a bridge to run across from box to box. i also make little caves of fleece that drape over the edges of boxes and such, so Rhino can play his favourite 'i'm hiding and you can't see me! oh crud, my tail is sticking out' game, hahahaha!

just be sure any cardboard you use has no staples or tape on it anywhere.

Thanks for the tips and advice!

More questions please!:
Does having outside play-things reduce the habits of chewing on everything else in the room?
Has anyone ever made mazes or more complex systems of treat retrieval to keep them occupied? Are they curious enough to remain interested in something of the sort?
