When I was having to hand feed Buttons I had at least 3 bites on my hands at all times. Those suckers hurt, bad.

Geez! I guess I'm lucky, I have only been bitten bad enough to break the skin twice. Once while grooming, and the other time after a chin was loose and she was scared, so i can't blame her too much for that one.

Ditto on being bitten by a hand feeden chin. Oh man, I still remember it well and that happened almost a year ago. No drops of blood but broken skin, felt like the worst paper cut ever!

I went up to Ohio a few weeks ago to pick up a bunch of chins and I stopped by the Hummel ranch. I had one of Ron's females held up by the tail taking a look at her belly because it was hard to tell without being closer to the lights. She decided to attach to my nose and not let go. Ron had to assist me by prying her teeth off of my nose. I now have a horrible scar on the tip and the bottom of my nose from where she tried to take it off. It bled for about 2 hrs and bruised for a few days. Talk about pain - I literally cried and couldn't hold back the tears. I guess the nose is a sensitive place.

I'm used to getting bit on the hands and it doesn't bother me. After you raise gliders, you get used to getting bit almost to the bone, but gosh, my nose still hurts from thinking about that chin bite.

Bobo is a biter here. She's gotten much better though. She has drawn blood on me several times. And I never learn! I still go in for kisses from her and I still get bit on the lip! She won't do scritches--oh lord don't even TRY to touch her while she's in the cage! She bites, but mostly just warning bites.
One time, Gordon, bit Stewart. It was awful! He latched on to the fatty part of the palm and wouldn't let go. Bless Stewart's heart too, he just sat there watching Gordon hanging from him and didn't try to shake him off or anything.
GiGi has learned many things from her mother, but so far no biting from GiGi!

Wow, after reading this I had a crazy dream lol. Burrito bit me. And I tried to blow on her face to get her off, but her head popped off still biting me. I couldnt get her head off so I had to pull it. It HURT lol.

My Bella "bites" me on the back of the hand almost every night. I put that in quotes because she is actually grooming me, but she is ROUGH! She is actually nipping small bits of my skin off! My hand looks diseased. I have NO idea how to make her stop, as she doesn't seem to be doing it maliciously - it's just like she's grooming, but since she can't find fur on me, she nips my skin.

She never used to nip this hard, I'm not sure what caused her to start, and the first few times she did it, I would make a high pitched "ow!" like a squeak and she would stop, understanding that it hurt. Now she just plows through!

She will bite me if Kiwi makes too much noise in her cage while she is out for playtime too (she hates Kiwi)

Bella is a gentle sweet girl otherwise, I swear!

I've never been bitten by a chinnie before but I'm sure it hurts because I have been bitten by hamsters before when I worked at PETCO. Those little stinkers bite hard and and hang on too. Once my flesh on my index finger was completely sliced from a hamster bite. I can only imagine a chinnie bite -they've got bigger teeth.

Sumo BITES he is a great big grumbly bear. He usually tries to warn me to leave him alone, but his cage needs to be cleaned And I need to check him periodically for hair rings(He REALLY hates them), other than that I try to get him out to play and am succesful at least one or two times a week. Boy can those teeth hurt. I think it is worse cause they are so cute and then BAM they bite, but first and formost they are Rodents and teeth were made for defending themselves from danger or intrusion. In Sumo's case it is ,this big cage is MINE all MINE and you cant change nothing I wont let you. He even rearranges things back to their original area before I cleaned and Glares at me with his evil eye , I know then to leave him alone for a few days so he can calm down.LOL

I've never been biten that hard, yet. Thank goodness! But, I do have a couple of barkers and one nipper. It's more than nibble, but not quite a bit. More of leave me alone or you're goona' get type nip.

I've been bitten by Toby twice where he drew blood. He wasn't doing it aggressively, he just really doesn't like to go in his carrier lol. More recently though he clamps onto my finger and will give it a few strong tugs, pulling my finger towards him cause he wants more oats. That has never drawn blood, but sometimes breaks the skin. He's such a stinker lol
My other chin Tristan has only wrapped his teeth around my finger once, and then immediately let go. It didn't hurt, I think he was just scared.

Most of my chins nibble but there have been two occasions when I've been bit with some serious force.

The first time was with my beige boy Pericles. I had just purchased him at the field day and was ready to take him home. I pulled him out of the show cage and had one hand under his chest, walking with him to put him in his carrier when CHOMP - he bit me hard on the tip of my finger and I was bleeding. That finger was bruised and sore for about a week, especially since it was the tip of my finger.

The other time was with a rescue named Mr. Chin. I had only had him for a few days but I needed to take him out to look him over, check teeth, hair rings, etc. He was sitting pretty calmly in my lap, allowing me to check him out but when I was ready to put him back in his cage, he bit me HARD. I was so surprised, I let go with my other hand and just held him by his tail to avoid getting blood on him. The blood was just dripping in large drops from my finger all over the floor. I think that was my worst bite. He never bit me again though... I think he was just agitated from all the poking and prodding.

wow this is crazy to read. gizmo hardly ever bites me. and if he does, i aggrivated him on purpose (you know, when the pokes get too much for them...i swear im just playing). but when he bites, its playful and he always lets go and never bites down hard. maybe i'll stop the pokes, id much rather have him on my side.

i thought chins only did test bites.

My new boy is a biter. Bite me and the guy that I bought him from yesterday and drew blood on both. Mine is the same hand as yours only up one knuckle! I'm still bleeding, actually. I'm thinking of naming him Vlad the Impaler! lol

Ouch yes. Chin bites hurt. I've only been bitten twice. The first time was from trying to pet up an un-socialized pet store chinnie. The second one was from my Cadbury, I had just got done combing him and boy was he mad. I went to put my hand underneath his front paws to put him back in his cage and CHOMP! Both times there was blood everywhere and my finger hurt for days.

Good thread to put us in the halloween mood. Blood and gore, yay.

Koko never does more than nibbles or the occasional rough grooming, but Kenai has gotten me a couple times, luckily not too badly. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with those silly little hormones... he's usually a huge sweetheart, but sometimes when I try to scritch him he'll start squeaking, try to mount my arm, and dig into the back of my wrist/arm... and won't let go. He also likes to use his teeth to get him places he's having trouble getting into, like my sweatshirt sleeve. I'll be glad when puberty is over... ;)

wow that looks painful. Gizmo has never bit me..just a few hard nibbles when grooming my hand but ouch!
