I think Gibson is turning into a squirel! I have caught him several times burying his food. Anyone else have hedgies that do this? Why? It's not like Im gonna eat it lol

What, you are too good for crickets, mealies, and cat food?!?

Im deffianatly not a fan of any of those... as for crickets and mealies... he wont touch them ... its just his kitty food he hides

Just be sure he is still eating. Sometimes if they are having teeth issues, they may pick up their food and drop it again unable to crunch. This may appear like they are moving the food around or trying to hide it but really it is a case of walking while trying to eat.

Maybe he just doesn't like his food. Cuda used to pick each Wellness kibble out of his bowl and carry it over to his litter box and just leave it. Eventually, I got the hint.

Charlie- He is deffianatly still eating, he is able to eat without any difficulty. What he does, and i should have been more specific, he eats, and then stops every few mouthfuls, take a peice into his house, burys it in the corner, goes back to his dish, and keeps eating. He hides about 5 peices. Then, later on, he will go to his house, dig it up and eat it =s
Courtney- Gibson wont eat anything else but his food lol. It is all the same shape, size, and flavour (I think, Im assuming) His treats are hand-fed kibbles lol. Occasionally he will munch on a green bean with me, or an unsalted cracker, but he wont even touch mealies =p

Be sure not to let him actually keep a stockpile of it. A lot of hedgies seem to like to "stash" their food. Bacteria will start to grow on it pretty quickly, though, so try to clean it out every day or two.

It sounds like just a harmless activity that makes him happy. I wouldn't worry too much about it, just make sure to clean it out before it's been buried for too long. Of course, maybe he thinks he's a puppy, too. Could be either. ;)
