I'm the one causing the fuss.
Hello. This is my first time posting on Chins & Hedgies - rather than just reading here. I want to thank those of you who called me on my website information that was incorrect (rather than just talk about me here on this site). I have responded to you individually if you emailed me about your site being mentioned as out of date, etc. I apologize for my mistake.
I started that page for myself because I was trying to find regional breeders (particularly in New England where there are so few). I soon realized there are too many obsolete links and that it is too difficult to tell if a site is still working without calling and speaking with the breeder. This page lost its use and I hid it a few days ago. Tonight, I deleted it so it cannot be viewed by direct search either. Sorry to ruffle feathers, I am really interested in having an up-to-date source of information for people looking for chinchillas in their region (where they could drive to pick them up). So I appreciate the helpful comments.
You should not say that anyone needs your permission to list a link to your website because a link is just an address. You cannot control who lists it. It is not intellectual property - it is public information. Out of respect, I did remove two active breeders who requested me to do so, but I find that a bit of an overreaction and counter-productive to the goals of the chinchilla breeding community. By having an accurate source of breeder information, I think more pet owners would purchase their chinchilla from a breeder rather than on Craigslist or the pet stores. I have no sinister intentions here. I love chinchillas and am happy to take advice from more experienced members.
