I got a surprise call today from Bob Gunning. I've never met, or spoken to him personally, but since he also lives in Spokane, he called to see if I would have any way of getting access to Jack's current address. I guess he has a few old pictures that he wants to send to him. I thought maybe someone here might have it? If so I'd greatly appreciate it, and can forward the info onto him. It was a very nice conversation. Bob is just the sweetest person. He offered to help me if I ever need it, and gave me an open invitation to visit or call him any time. :)
My email addy is [email protected] if anyone can help him out.
Thanks!

I bet Serena (lilchinchilla) would know. She used to get quite a few chins from him.

I have to agree Christine, Bob Gunning is a wonderful person. He contacted me this summer about the Gunning Blacks. Well to make a long story short, the next edition of the MCBA News, Jul/Aug is dedicated all to Bob Gunning and the creation of the Gunning Black along with pixs.

I can't wait!

Has anyone invited Bob to the Field Day in September (now that the date is for sure set)?

I did get a email addy for Jack from Serena.

Alison, I did mention the Field Day coming up to Bob.

I can hardly wait for the newest addition! Hmmm maybe I'll have him sign my copy!
I was telling hubby who he was after the call, and how excited I was that he called. He just looked at me and thought I was nuts!

But you are! Nuts and loving it, remember?
Hey Christene, I been missing you on here. I know you are very busy while the kids are home from school.
Anybody care to tell us a little Bio on either or both of these guys. I recognize the names as "Chin People" but that's all.

Since the ultimate purpose here is to learn something when possible I'm going to bump this up and hope someone can enlighten us. :) Thanks, Theresa

he was one of the people to first discover black velvets:

He developed them actually, through many years of selective breeding. The Velvet gene(s) isn't like white or some of the others that just sort of popped up. He started with animals that had 'dirty faces' (just darker around the eyes and/or nose) and through careful breeding, developed the Black Velvet.

Jack Humphries was one of the larger ranchers in the area (I'm pretty sure he's in British Colombia). He retired just a few years ago. His herd was called Blue Vale Chinchillas.
