Hi everyone! I just have a question about biting.. What started out as nibbling and grooming has turned into pretty hard bites. As a way to get Gary to climb into my hands, I would rip a raisin into 4 pieces and stick them to the palm of my hands and on my wrists. (I only give him 1 raisin every other day to help with training but anticipate cutting them back to 1 per week once we are bonded) But since then, i've tried to get him to climb into my hands without using raisins. He will climb up but will nibble the soft parts of my hands (pads of my fingers etc). I used to pull away but stopped and now let him keep nibbling.. The longer I let it continue the harder he bites; to the point that i stop him just before it feels like he's about to draw blood. What can I do to stop this? **I do say "gentle" in a stern voice that does tend to get him to stop..

First things first. Ditch the raisins. They are not good for chins and can cause serious digestive issues. Second, try saying gentle sooner. When mine nibble a bit hard, I will give them a gentle tap on the nose and tell them no. After a couple of times they figure it out and don't nibble as hard.

yep, stop with the raisins altogether.

he's probably used to the raisins being on your hands and may be biting because they are no longer there.

with Rhino, the 'gentle' command in a very firm but not loud voice works well. he has a habit of grooming my ears a little rough and that command works every time. i say it right when i feel him start to be too rough, and he backs off.

I say a big "ouch" and look at them but I dun pull away, in fact I stick my hand right in front of their little faces and tell them it HURTS, they seem to know as they will kiss my hand back.
