Its been about 2-3 weeks since I change my 2 chinchillas hay...they had hay cubes befohayand its hard to find them so I changed to loose hay...the brand I got looked clean n all..... oh and the brand is all living things....well they eat it but at night they pull it all out of the hay rack and waste the whole thing....they have plenty of toys and I play with them every day.....I don't want to waste money If they don't even use it

Loose hay is a lot more messy than hay cubes. If it hasn't been peed on, you can always put it back into the hay rack and add a little fresh to it.

My guys are in separate cages, but they each get a handful of hay and a scoop of pellets morning and night. Sometimes they eat it all and sometimes there will be some left. If there is a lot left, I don't add anymore and leave it as is. If there is a little, I'll add some to it. They'll eat it all eventually.

Unfortunately chins are big hay wasters. They still need the hay. They seem to be looking for the perfect hay piece or they eat half of it and drop the rest. I always tell people anything left on the floor the next day get rid of - they probably have peed on it. Then put more hay in the holder - it is just a fact of life with chins. Hay for one chin isn't really that expensive.

yup my chin will pull hay all day long if she could many others chins will do the same thing its crazy but I also found loose hay gives her something to do and forage through so i don't mind the waste

I like to hid some timothy hay is different places in her cage like in toilet paper tubes and i also have a dangling metal ball hay rack thing that I stuff hay into that she has to reach and play with to get hay out. I like stuffing hay cubes into it better because they have to rip onto the cubes and its more exercise for her. I also have a large hay rack. She is a huge waster but at least she's not lacking any hay. haha

When I notice my girls getting extra messy, I replace the hay and mix in a little alfalfa or orchard grass to pique their interest. It usually works to get them munching more than being destructive. There's always hay everywhere though. I find it in the oddest places, lol.

I think I have owned every kind of hay rack/holder/pot out there, and they will ALWAYS pull all the hay out and scatter it all around the cage. I just count myself lucky if most of it gets eaten.
I have to agree with Mt. Zion Chins, hay for 1-2 chins isn't really expensive. Try having 5-6 of the little fiends wasting it left and right. Oh, and one guinea pig who does it as well! LOL!
