I have liked going to Pet Supplies Plus for timothy hay cubes for Trixie, as they sold them in bulk, and a much better deal. So, today we were not far from there and I asked my husband if we could stop, as I needed some. I hd been out of them for a while..just giving her the loos hay.

Any way, there I am scooping them into my bag when it suddenly registered I was seeing a lot of little bugs flying around..and they were all comig out of the bin of cubes. Needless to say I threw down the bag and slammed the bi shut. I told one of the staff who just kind of shrugged and said she would "tell the manager". So, I guess I will not be shopping there again.

That's too bad you had a bad experience. I've always had good experiences at my PSP. Hopefully the manager was notified and the product was removed off of the shelf. I've never been overly crazy about buying from the bulk bins because I worry about freshness.

I guess I am back to buying prepackaged. It is too bad as they have chin food in smaller packaging, which is a better deal for me.

They were probably weavils. I have found then in rodent feed (wheat products) and stuff. They get it at the store and then you take them home and have them flying about. They start out as crawling bugs though.

I guess they aren't harmful, but it is gross. It means that someone is not taking the proper care, too.

Probably weevils..too big for fruit flies. I sent an email to my daughter in law when we got home, I think she shops there for her mini zoo..she has dogs, cats and ferrets. But then, she may have switched over to the PetCo that opened down the road from PSP a few months back.

I stopped purchasing hay cubes from Pet Supply Plus about 2 or 3 years ago. I also used to purchase food there before I knew that the goodies in the food was bad for them. But, every time I would get hay or food and get it home there was always these little white worms that would crawl up the side of the container I would store their food and hay in. Since then, I've been ordering them offline from Lonestar Chins and never had a problem!

I have seen in their hay cubes too. I have to buy them in bulk from ryerson's now because I can't find them anywhere else

Ugh I feel ya... I worked at psp for a few years. We got in a few bad shipments but we just sent em back and got them replaced. I've herd of some bad Pet Supplies while I was there though. We had a lot of people complain about other Pet Supplies. Our PSP was awesome, but i know a few others in the area weren't up to par.

Oh wow, that is horrible that they would just shrug it off. Hopefully she actually told the manager before others bought it and brought all those bugs home!

I've actually had some bad experiences with the chin cookies, and these little black flying beetle looking bugs. They multiplied in the thousands and it was completely out of control. We had to removed a lot of our own food, all the chin cookies and clean/sterilize a lot of items (and throw a lot away). Someone said they are called grain beetles or cereal beetles. Horrible little creatures!!
