I've been thinking alot lately. I'm not even pregnant yet, but we're trying, and hopefully (God willing) it will happen soon.

I believe my husband and I would make great parents, and we really want to have a child. I've been thinking about it alot lately and have been throwing around names in my head. I know it's WAY to early to be thinking about names, but I'm just coming up with ideas.

If it's a boy, I want his middle name to be John, after my husband. I don't want two Johns in the house, that would be too confusing, but I think naming my child after my husband is an honor thing. My husband is a great guy and I think it would be nice to have my sons middle name be named after him.

So, anyway, John is going to be his middle name. (If it's a boy).

So, then i'm thinking, what is a good first name to go with the middle name John? Obviously this is something my husband and I would discuss when the time comes, but I just want ideas. I was thinking we could name him after someone we respect and admire, but neither my husband or I had very many good male role models growing up. Both of our fathers were jerks, so we aren't naming a child after either of them. My grandfather was a wonderful man, but his name was Clair, and i'm not too fond of naming my son Clair.

So, that brings me to my question. (yes, I know I'm crazy for thinking so much into this already.....) For those of you who have children, why did you name them what you did? What was your inspiration?

And no, I'm not biased. I have several ideas for naming a girl if I happen to have a girl, i'm just having trouble with ideas for boys names.

No kids yet but when I have a girl her name will be Alexis Ann (always loved the name Alexis, and Ann is my future-mother-in-laws name), and a boy/girl name I have already picked out is Peyton (another name I just love).
 
My 1st born was named after both of her great-grandmothers. During my single years I had a collection/obsession of anything "angels", you name it - pictures, figurines, glasses, clothes, etc. My husband's grandma passed away right before we got married and her name was "Angeline". It's as if my daughter had named herself and her nickname is Angel. My second daughter was named after she was born, poor thing. My husband and I could not settle on any name and then he through out this name that sounded just right, Cassandra and her nickname is Cassie.

As far as boys' name, sorry but the closest we ever came to name any boys has been our pets, Buddy the pug and CJ & Pepper the chinchilas. :)
 
In the future if I have children, I have names figured out on both sides (boy or girl) and thankfully my fiance fully supports me...

My uncle was a drug addict from his 20's until (at least I thought) he died, 3 days after my 17th birthday. I found out that for the last two weeks he'd been clean, sober, and working, really trying to turn his life around. So in his honor, I want to name my son:
Terry Ray.
Terry Lee was his full name, but Ray is my grandpa's first name and my dad's middle name.

As for a daughter, everyone knows the story about my best friend that was shot by her husband, leaving behind two children (At the time 17 months and 7 months of age). So in Deonna Lynn's memory, I want to name my future daughter:
Deonna Faith.
Deonna, after Deonna of course, and Faith because she made me have faith in myself whenever I doubted myself.

I wanted to pick names that were close and meaningful, and I think I was pretty successful.
 
Whatever you do, don't go with a name that is popular. For our first, we had quite a few names picked out and when she was born quickly ruled out all but one, Jessica. The names I had thought all my life I'd want as girls names, didn't fit once she arrived. There were 6 Jessica's born that week. All during grade school there were 3 Jessica's in her class. They used, Jessica, Jess, Jessie but it was confusing. In high school, teachers often confused her with another Jessica who was the same height, build and hair colour. I got a few phone calls about the other Jessica because the teachers confused them. I often wondered if they confused them when marking as well.

Our second daughter had no name for a couple days after birth. We had a few boys names picked out but could not decide on a girls name. We finally chose Larissa, Lacey for short. It was an uncommon name and even if Lacey did become popular, Larissa has numerous other nicknames.
 
I'm pretty set on Joseph Omar for a boys name...I don't know where the Omar came from, it's a name I really like and I think it matches Joseph pretty well and it's not a common name, but I'm pretty set on Joseph for a boy. Middle name is debatable, but Joseph, not so much. For girls....I'm thinking Alexis Lila...Lila was my grandma's first name, so I'm set on Lila as well, first name is debatable lol. I guess when the time comes when I get pregnant(not any time soon) the father and I will have to figure it out, but I'm pretty set on those two names.
 
My children will not have English names, that's for sure. For now, I am going with....a Little Ximena (girl) & a Little Lucas (boy), LOL.

Mum was like - yeah that might not work, your Dad will end up calling ''Ximena''...Helen LMAO!!!!

Another Spanish boy name that I like is........Jaime. And then my friends name is ''Roman'', I also love that name.
 
I'd definitely have to say unique names are the way to go. I love names that are totally different. Ashton, Aspen, Maddox, Lyric, London, Aslan, Winter, etc. I'm no where near kids or thinking about kids. My fur-kids are enough for me right now.
 
When I became pregnant each time with my boys, I wanted names that weren't popular because when I was growing up, there were too many Jennifers. There were 4 of us in class one year. But I went through hundreds of names and my husband didn't like anything out of the ordinary. So we ended up with Brandon Ray - we had a dog named Brandi and Ray is my husband's middle name. Second baby was named Joshua Keegan. I wanted Keegan to be his first name but my husband couldn't handle that, so we made it his middle name. I just basically gave up trying to come up with a name my husband could live with, so in the end, it came down to what he could live with! Of course, I hadn't wanted them to be popular names and didn't get my wish!! But their names are very fitting and I'm happy with them.
 
If Jacie was a boy her name would have been Devon Michael, we liked the name Devon and Michael after the Arch Angel.

We saw the name Jaycee in the baby name book, but didn't like the spelling so we came up with the spelling Jacie, her middle name is Marie (same as mine)

She has her own unique first name my middle name and her fathers last name.
Best of all worlds.
 
It's never too early to pick out names!
Sometimes on the first day of school teachers would have everyone say where their names came from, and the kids who were named after their parent's favorite song were always pretty embarassed! I'd avoid that...

My daughter would be named Saralyn Rose. Saralyn after my grandma and Rose after me!

For a boy, I always liked the name David. That's my fiance's name, so my son would be Charles David jr. Another boy name would be Keith after my fiance's grandpa who was the only person who raised him well. Coincidentally, I've always loved that name too!
 
Heehee Since you dont live in Canada, I can tell you what My husband wants to name our first son... which for me wont be for another few years at least!!
He wants to name him Nathan
dunno about middle names though.
And for the longest time i wanted to name my daughter Mercy, or Lilly Marie, but i don't know what I was thinking because I do not like those names now....

Ava Lynne for a girl, Xander James for a boy. :heart3: I'd really like to have my and my future mother-in-laws' middle name, Ann, for one of our daughters (if any or more than one, haha) though.
 
I have a few names picked out already. My husband and I are trying aswell, and I just couldn't help but throw some baby names around in my head.

Girl:
Kimber Louise (Louise is my mothers middle name)
Brianna Rose (just because I love those names)
Neveah Alexis (which is "HEAVEN" spelled backward and it sounds so pretty. And Alexis is my husbands fave name)

As for boy names, my husband and I are kind of stuck on them... not a very long list as you can see.

Boy: (no matter what, my first son's middle name will be Michael *my husbands name* as its a tradition in my family to give the first born son their fathers name as a middle name).

Our little boy's name is Jacob Benjamin.

We got Jacob from my family's last name, which is Jacobs.

And Benjamin is my fiance's first name. So, Jacob Benjamin. There you go. :)
 
If, by some miracle, the boyfriend and I ever decided to have kids, I tend to favor names that are obviously gender specific and hard to misspell/mispronounce. Robert, Brian, William, Jason, Steven, Charlotte, Hannah, Suzannah, Julia, Amity (a little trendy, but hard to mess up), etc.. See, I see names all day at work, and I don't understand how some parents don't realize their kid's name is used outside of the family too.

We had a kid come through the other day who will probably be very frustrated in a couple of years. Written, it was the equivalent of "Meighienne". The pharmacist had no idea how to pronounce it, and of course the mother got huffy when the pharmacist shortened it to "Meg".

Another thing to keep in mind is how common your last name is in your area. If there are a lot of Jacksons in your area, not only is "Michael" possibly a bad choice, but so are most popular names now, as there's pretty much guaranteed to be a Dillon/Dylan, Kaden, Skylar or Peyton about his age at the hospital or in school with him. There's also, somewhere in our great nation, a very frustrated member of the Greene family among kids named Hunter, Sage, Jade and Emerald. (Saw that on a baby names board, and the parents got ripped for making their children a trite joke.)

There's more, but I can't think of the rest now....as for girl's names:

That's all I can think of at the moment....Over all, I prefer more unique names. I love my name(Emily), however I know a lot of Emily's and sometimes wish I had a more unique name....or at least that it was spelled differently :)
 
I have Aaron Robert and I wanted Alexander John but I changed my mind on that one cuz I want a girl named Alexis. LoL. Those are too close. I also like the name Edward and Justin but my fiance says no.
Boy names are tougher for me. I like girl names. They are easier for me.
My brother's name is Thomas John. I like that together too.
 
Oh oH, i used to work at a PEds oFfice and i swear these parents are hippys, they had

Georgia Peach
Apricot Brandy
Apple Blossom

I swear the parents named them these!!
