Three of our seven chins came from CL, and only one of them was in good shape when we got her. The other two were both underweight, and their fur was disgusting. Since then, we look but don't respond to CL ads (though I will post on here if I feel they need someone with a good amount of experience - like the guy who was selling a breeding pair and a kit).

Here's an... um... interesting one from the Omaha CL: http://omaha.craigslist.org/pet/1591527789.html

Chinchillas Socializing Group (Bellevue)

As you'll see I have 4 diff groups started to better socialize my pets.

This one is for the chinchillas.

Not sure how much luck I'll have in this category, not sure how many people have chins out there but we'll give it a shot. I have a female chin 10yr old and I've had her for 9yrs. She has never been around chins since I got her and I'm going to see if she will take to this. Meetings would be weekly or every other week at my residence or a playmates if they are willing for an hour. If my girl doesn't take to this I am still willing to host the group for others :) I'm hoping to hear from you and your chin soon :)

If I had 150 bucks and another cage, I would go get this girl.
Really.... she likes dogs, huh?

Huh that's funny, that's the same stock chinchilla photo from EVERYWHERE. That chinchilla must model then.

Here's and infuriating post from my local...I have been seriously tempted to go get this guy, because I feel so bad for him.
"Waldo is a male chinchilla he's 13, with fluffy grey fur. He loves to roam around the house when you let him out and will play nicely with other pets. I enjoyed having him but am getting older and he needs a new loving home. I'd be willing to include food, cage, water, etc along with him"

1. He is WAY too skinny.
2. YOU WANT TO REHOME A CHINCHILLA YOU'VE HAD FOR 12 OR 13 YEARS BECAUSE YOU'RE GETTING OLDER?? What, did your parents buy it for you as a kid and now it's time to throw him away with all your barbies??
AAAGGGHHHH!!!

...I got Rodya and Sonya from a breeder downsizing her colony on CL. Sonya has a scar on her eye which was never checked by the vet in the 3 years there, and Rodya's fur was severely matted. I had to cut large chunks of it off. He was really ugly for a long time, but I still loved him ;) And then there is the issue with their feet...check out my foot question post in health and hygiene for pics.

here is another one -

"I am looking to find a new steward for my extremely friendly and personable chinchilla pair -- a beige, reserved but sweet female, and an outgoing, comedic grey male. They are bonded, and have, in the past, had babies. They are very used to being handled (he makes a great shoulder-parrot), and I frequently take them on outings in my pocket with their leashes. I include with them a four-tiered cage, jars of food, timothy hay, and all their such-and-such."

You take your chins outside in your pocket with leashes!?!?! :banghead:

Hoodies have a single large pocket in the front that chinchillas can fit in. While I don't agree with that idiot...he obviously doesn't know proper chinchilla care, I had no problem taking my first chinchilla around with me on cool days. Usually when I needed to pick up feed from the store because they were always asking me what a chinchilla was.

Is there anyone in the Rochester, NY area that wants to adopt Waldo so I don't take on another chin and get kicked out by my roommate? :p
That's like getting rid of a 13 year old toy breed dog...or a 9 year old retriever sized dog... UGH

I wrote his owner and let her know that while I cannot afford to pay a re-homing fee that I would gladly take this little guy in and provide him with a forever home. I even offered to allow her to keep the cage and majority of the supplies so they can try and sell that if the money is an issue.

I also wrote Waldo's owner asking about the rehoming fee but never got an answer...perhaps because I also asked if he'd ever been to see a vet?

The response I got was that they would take Waldo to a vet before rehoming. I'm not sure if that implies they would find one for him or have a pre-existing one.
