My first girl Sophie is the leader of my little herd, but doesn't act like prey around other animals.

When my old golden retriever was alive Sophie would jump on her and chew her whiskers. (And poor Jessie would just give me the most patronizing look)

Now that I have my cat, Sophie makes sure to put her in her place as often as possible. If Sake(the cat) paws the cage even playfully, Sophie runs up and barks at her and bites if possible. If Sake tries to play with the other two girls who don't mind, Sophie will get in the middle and send Sake running.

And when the girls are out for playtime, Sake won't even stay in the room because Sophie will beeline for her, get up on hind legs and bite her.

I think it's adorable and endearing how protective Sophie is, but think it's weird that she chooses "fight" vs. "flight" being a prey animal and all.

One of my males (Bullwinkle) doesn't so much want to fight my dog (Trubs) but Trubs is terrified of Bullwinkle. Bullwinkle will stick his nose through the bars of his FN and Trubs gets all upset and cries and backs away haha. It cracks me up too.

Mine will do that too, to some extent. We babysat a Tibetan Mastiff (think big dog - 70ish pounds in our case) who was very curious about the huge cage in our living room! He'd go up and sniff anything in reach (which was most of the bottom section), and if my chin saw him come up, he'd act very "tough guy" until the dog wandered away again. I'm pretty sure that was all just play though, as the dog never acted aggressive and my chin never tried to bite. It was pretty cute watching him jump around in front of a nose that was as big as he is!

We had roommates with cats for a bit, and he wasn't such a fan of the cats! They weren't supposed to have access to my room, but the few times of them would get in, she'd always stick her paws in his cage - and he'd bite them hard enough to make her run back out of the room. :p

It probably depends on personality. I have a pretty out-going chin who's not afraid of much of anything, and who knows he's in a safe environment. He's never had any reason to run and hide!

I have chihuahuas and the chins dominate them through the cage bars. The chins never back down, but they haven't had to in years since the spirits of my little doggies have all been broken through multiple encounters with insane ninja chins. I swear, I never let the dogs play with them. Letting dogs or cats play with chins can be a disaster and dangerous! It's just that my dogs are terrified of the little chinchillas. They walk around the cages like there is a 10 inch force field that will not let them near them. (I think the chins laugh at them...)

My ricky was on a dresser in my old bedroom, every time my dad's chihuahua walked in, he'd **** his head and start doing the crazy dance, and bark. Poor thing, I tried not letting the dog in my room after that. Ricky is much calmer now...
