Congrats on that! I'm glad it worked out, kids need to be responsible for the damage they do. Did they get community service and did their parents show?

It's a stupid thing that 15 year old kids get the idea from movies like Fast and Furious. Uhg.
They don't necessarily get the idea from movies - we used to do it for fun, not much to do out in the boonies though it was more popular when the bulk of vehicles were rear wheel drive. Obviously Dukes of Hazard is from the 70's. More backroads then, too. I've never done it on pavement, you get better slides on gravel and dirt.

Congrats on the win in court. Do you know what type of repayment plan they have? Are you going to get to see you money this year? If not you might want to talk to your insurance about getting the money now, and then the restitution goes to them. Not sure if they would do this, but might be worth looking into.

They have to live next to you, so they really should be paying up quickly. Although, you know, this could mean that they will move away and you won't be bothered by them again!

It really makes me angry to think that someone would do this to you, Brittney...or anyone for that matter. My parents would have practically killed me if I ever did anything like that. I would still be locked in my room even today.

They should, but I have seen people choose to get arrested and spend time in jail over pay the restitution. I know an individual through my job that is on the run because he doesn't want to pay restitution, he's wanted in this state so he left. I also know people who have owed over $1000 on $25 a month payments. That's only $300 a year, it would take 23 years at that rate to pay back $7k. The courts in my opinion are not hard enough on most criminals and are way too lenient when it comes to getting victims restitution.

We got 7 grand for my truck. The kids were 10 minutes late and they were about to set another court date. They tried to pull their whole "I got injured" story and the judge dismissed it saying basically it was their own **** fault. I feel so much better.

Hehe wish I could have seen their faces!

To lighten things up a bit... so can you now take your car and turn it in for cash for clunkers ;).

hehe that wouldn't work, it got more than 18 MPG. Even though it is totaled. We are getting the money within the month (at least that's what the father told us) I already have 3 grand saved up because I want to get a smaller car since I don’t have horses here in AZ like I did back home. Looks like I am going to get a camaro..... Which will be different, and will definitely be going in the garage.

Those new Camaro's are pretty nice looking - around here, they're still getting 2 grand over sticker! I've heard if you say "I'll see if a Challenger is cheaper," they start dropping price real quick! [direct competition]
The V-6 with traction control is the way I'd go - still fast, easy on gas and insurance, too!
Have fun shopping!
