I don't much care for the brand to be honest and the Lixit would probably be better but I decided to try it because it mounts to the cage and my Chin has a real problem with knocking his water bottle over. I gave his old water bottle to the new Chin I got yesterday since they have to be housed separately.

Though, I am concerned that my chin doesn't understand how to use it. I placed it in the same spot where his old one used to be but I am unsure if he get it. Should I buy him a regular water bottle again? Or are there ways that I can help him figure it out?

Sorry if this seems silly.

I just had the same issue. My old water bottle was leaking, so I bought two of the Lixit flip-top water bottles. He tried the Lixit bottles, but I was afraid he wasn't getting enough water, so I put the old one back in and that's the one he's been using, so I'm not sure what to do!

Mine doesn't seem to even be trying.

I read in a post a few days ago that you can try rubbing some apple on the part that the water comes out of to dry to draw some attention to it from your chin. You can also mark the water level on the bottle with a dry erase marker or something similar to see if the water level is dropping. I've never tried that style of bottle so I don't have any personal advice for you, only what I've previously read.

I always start my edstrom valve type by jiggling the metal rod so there is water there in the tip. If they can't figure it out, you can try rubbing a little raisin on the nozzle. Typically once they find it and figure it out they will continue to use it, but if you have their old bottle in there, they will never try the new one.

He's figured out how to drink from it! I took the old bottle out and left the two new ones in and he figured it out. He prefers one over the other, but they're both working, so he'll never be without water. The water level continues to drop and since I know it's not leaking, I can see how much he's drinking!
