Airplane Travel

Hello,

I have 4 chinchillas, three males and one female. My husband is in the military so lately I've been researching on traveling with chinchillas on a plane. While I know this is possible, how do they actually do? Does it stress them out too much or hurt them in any way? Any comments/tips dealing with this would be greatly appreciated. Also if you don't recomend flying with them how else could I transport them far distances, like through what company? (other than driving)

The problem with shipping them while you travel is that most airlines won't allow them as carry on in the cabin, and they have to be in a special compartment so that they travel safely. Not all planes have that. They also ship them out at truly bizarre times from the various animal hubs, which makes it almost impossible for you to line up your flight with theirs. Thankfully, Continental no longer requires them to spend the night in Houston, which is a big improvement. Instead, they are shipped within the day now.

There is a new shipping company that does nothing but handle the shipping of animals. I bet it won't be cheap, but they seem to know what they are doing. I don't think this is it, but here is just one that shows up on a google search: http://animaltransportation.com/

do you know anything about international air travel?
if all things fail, i might be going back to Singapore after my studies...and i would definitely want to bring my chin along...

i'm pretty sure i cant carry her in the cabin...she'll go with the bags as cargo...
what pet carrier is the best for this? and what things should i take notice of?
should i microchip my chin?

Contact wktam on here. He's an administrator of the forum. He moved from the States to Singapore a couple years back and had to jump through a few hoops to get it done, but he got them there.
