You want to keep it in the refrigerator just to keep the acidophilus from degrading. I don't think anything else in it would go bad...

As far as how long it'll last - I bought the big jar, and with 30 - 45 chins, [it varies] I'm just running out, about 15 months later! And they all get it 2-3 times a week!
I just keep the lid tight in the chin room!

I just let them eat off the spoon - some take a few bites and walk away, some push the others away with their hands, [which is real cute] and some will eat it until I stop - it's fun to watch!
