A question about my female's litter's father! (Did that make sense? LoL)

I'm sorry about the tiny one, there's still hope for him. Congratulations on the babies they are adorable and the momma is gorgeous.

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck with Tiny Tim. You've gotten some good advice already, so I do not have much at all to add. I hope he pulls through..but please if he does not, do not blame yourself. You put more into him then most people do for their pets--and sometimes as much as we try, we can't save them all.

Some food for thought.. Sometimes we need to look at the quality of life a kit will have. If he isn't improving, I would think long and hard about putting him out of his pain, and letting him go. Sometimes that is the most humane thing to do.

That is not a healthy kit. It already has what is call the "death curve" of the spine.

I know this is not what anyone wants to hear, but if it was mine I'd have it PTS.

Thank you for all your replies- I am going to try to sleep a little bit...this is like having a human newborn again!

Today...3/2/2008

Hi Rickman and everyone else...

Well Tiny Tim made it through the night. I am so mad at myself though:realmad:I set my phone alarm for 230 am (I went up at 1230) to come down and feed TT and I woke up to the alarm and thought *just 5 more minutes* and woke up at :cry4: 500 am! I AM CONTINOUSLY KICKING MY OWN BUTT! He had lost 2 grams....sniff sniff

He is truly a trooper; I immediately took him out...he had a bowel movement on him. So I cleaned him off and the feedings began. I spend most of the morning with him. It is 1100 am here now (We got massive snow last night- VA) and I just put him back in with mom. I know that I kept him out that long because I feel so guilty:unsure:but he ate a lot and I cleaned him off and dried him as well. I took the other two kits out so that Ruby could focus on TT solely for awhile. He was happy to be back with momma :heart3:

I did the eye trick last night and his eyes are still closed, but he liked it!

Hope to be giving a better update later today. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!

Melissa (and Tiny Tim)

I've even "pried" the eyes open, after getting them wet - finger above and thumb below, on the skull, just to help! Dry well when done. Seemed to help the kit quite a bit!

Oh, my thoughts are with this little one and I hope for the best despite all odds being against him. If he pulls through this, he will be your miracle baby. Good luck little man!

Awww, so sad with the little guy.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to side with Riven on this as well. I think you are prolonging this to no good end. He looks as though he was crushed. With the little guy having poop on him, only being able to squirm, not even move, as Megan said, it's a quality of life issue. He should be up running around with his siblings, not laying on his side while they run over him. This isn't a little injury that is going to improve, I'm afraid.

I know how hard this is for you, believe me. I've been there more times than I want to count, but I also know how much harder I fought when I first started breeding, because I thought every single kit should live. It just doesn't always work that way. Sometimes, they truly aren't meant to.

Best wishes from me, Aiko, Rini, Doof, My Lil Guy, Bubbles, and Jupiter. We're all rooting for Tiny Tim!

2/3 update

Well Tiny Tim is still plugging along. We are up to 42 g this morning. And Rickman's eye trick seems to have helped a little bit...I am washing under his mouth (food ick) and his backside with warm water and then I am drying him at a VERY SAFE distance on the LOWEST setting with my hair dryer. He loves his blowouts :winkers:

Max (The litter's father) has his neuter appt tomorrow  so he will be able to recover while the babies are being weaned from mom. Max and Ruby are so attached, I don't have the heart to permanently seperate them, so this is the only option. Poor Max!

It is sad to see all of the replies from those of you that are professional breeders that the odds are against Tiny Tim. I know that is the harsh reality (survival of the fittest!) and I will inquire at the vet's tomorrow about him and see what their opinion is as well. I would not want to be keeping him alive purely for selfish reasons. :cry4:

Thanks again to everyone, you are truly are a great group of chin friends! Oh, by the way, my dream one day is to have a white mosaic; they are so beautiful! I look at some of your pictures and drool!

Melissa

Hehe, Aiko is a lil white mosaic (I think she's a wilson white) but I adore her, they're my fav too.

Good luck with Max's neuter, at least you're being responsible and deciding not to allow them to breed anymore, kudos.
I'm rooting for Tiny Tim, and I'm glad that the eye trick worked. Best of luck to you and him and all of your herd.

Good news and bad news....

Well the good news is that Max's neuter went very well and he is resting comfortably at the vet's office... :dance3: ...I know that he can't wait to be back with Ruby!

The bad news is that my husband and I made the decision to put Tiny Tim down this morning. My heart aches for the little guy, but I know inside that is was truly the best decision. I agree with those of you that mentioned prolonging the inevitable; as well as what would really be his quality of life? So, he has gone to the wonderful place where there is no pain...I know I will see him bouncing around some day!

So I have attached a smile picture for you all...the two healthy siblings caught in a cute moment!

Melissa

BTW DivaChin, your little white lady is DIVINE!

Sometimes the only way to really show them how much we love them is to let them go.

I'm glad to hear about Max! Will he be coming home tomorrow?

Adorable babies. :)

Yup! Tomorrow!

Yup! Max is 99.9% coming home tomorrow! :heart3: I can't wait to have my furball back!
