Wow I'm new to chinchillas and just got my first two boys...and I am just about rolling on the floor here reading this thread! And I thought it was odd that my CAT humps everything, now to find out my chins might start doing it too!!

Have you learned about "pulling taffy" yet???

Edgar is four months old and we've caught him "pulling taffy" twice. It's a way of saying it is that he is giving his man bits a REALLY good bath.

I have a male and female lovebird. The male is so bonded to people that he won't mate with the female. Stino has a favorite toy he takes his frustration on. Griffi our female becomes so desparate for a mate that she substitutes her brocolli when she needs eggs fertilized. Didn't know we'd have similar issues with Edgar but I guess it's a fact of life lots of animals. Looks like I will also be sewing Edgar a few cuddle buddies

So far the brocolli has fertilized two clutches of eggs but no babies so far ;).

I don't really mind the behavior as it's natural for the animal but it can make for some funny moments.

Okay, here goes-"pulling taffy" refers to male chinchillas habit of frequent grooming and for lack of better term-self gratification sexual service. I also call it "taffy pulling time" when as all good little boy chin owners know/learn that you(yes you)must perform the undignified act of coaxing your little fellow's man bits out and making sure they have no hair rings that they haven't/didn't get off their penis on their own.Hair ring checks must be done as if rings are not removed they can lead to severe infection, pain, and other things you really don't want to have to deal with. Most little fellows do not appreciate this being done, others almost ask for a cigarette when you're finished. Not a very technical explaination, but hopefully clear enough.

Oh gosh  I'm lucky that my boys are pretty discreet about their fun time! My friend's chin, however, is a bit of a showoff, he seems to choose times where people are watching! I have seen him 'taffy pulling; more than once, then sitting there, hunched, afterwards, still in the act, but with his eyes half shut, looking quite pleased..I'm kinda glad mine choose to do it when I'm not looking!

So when should we start checking for hair rings? A certain age? after noticing cleaning or certain actions? My boyfriend doesnt want to do it at all...

Ha! This is a funny thread

I have 2 females who do not hump....I feel left out ...LOL

Oh yes... Skitzo used to attack my hand every time I put it in the cage. I thought he was over all of that until last night.
I got my new hay bags and put one in with him.....Oh my!!!!!

He went for that thing like you would not believe. EWWWWWW
I will be making him a cuddle buddy or three in the next couple of days.

Now I'm afraid to put the other ones in with my other two boys.
Good thing I bought a bunch of them so I can switch out.

This thread is 4 pages of "Self Gratification"... You are a surly bunch of Chin Porn addicts!

My first chinchilla (Chin) used to totally take care of him self....yeah those little guys are quite flexible. I used to tell people that came over he was cleaning himself...ha ha ha
