    Manna Pro Sho

I did used to use it. Whenever I have random feed either from purchases or switches, I just add a few or teaspoon and mix it in with all the chins' feed. Tis way no feed is wasted...and as long it isn't a lot or different feed, it wont upset their digestive tracts.

    Oh Hannah. ..

hmmm....fleece chewers tend to chew anything except metal. So, your chin would likely chew the PVC as well. If it is within your budget, I would get a metal tube with a fleece cover. You can get them at http://qualitymutationchinchillas.com/fleeceitems.html.

    Manna PRO and SHO

I find that chins can switch pretty easily/quickly from Pro to Show. In fact, they eat more of it....I think it smells better to them. I have had no problems transitioning quickly over three days.

Chin-Chillers on sale at Pet Supermarket!

I also want to add that if you know any handy types, looking for marcle or granite tiles on sale and cutting them to size is MUCH cheaper. I use whole tiles in my Ferret Nation Cage. But, they do hold urine odor, which is pretty gross.

Balls near genitalia on male. Please respond with ideas ):

Totally normal. Some are "show-ers" more than others. :)

    Pee problems

Ideas: 1) Is she potty trained? If you can get her used to peeing in a shavings-filled baking dish, say, 12" wide, by putting urine-soaked shavings mixed in with new shavings so she recognizes the smell. Then you can bring the dish to the room when they are playing, put her near it, and hope she...

    Silly question about dust.....

I was trying to find my link to that! Glad someone found it. It really is a unique vein...and the chinchilla industry would not be the same were it not for that stuff being mined!

    hay question

Mazuri id already high in protein and is alfalfa-based. He should be on a Timothy hay for his forage. He will fight it for awhile, as alfalfa is good tasting, but in the long term, timothy hay needs to be given to him. The breeder likely was trying to make sure he grew big, but I think most...

How much food is too much?

Agree with the above. My chins go through varying periods of voracity as they grow, more when they are in a growth period and less in the interim. I tend to give a little more than the volume they eat when its empty. Also, each chin is different and accordingly eat a different amount of pellets.

    hay question

Are you on an alfalfa-based or timothy-based pellet? If the former, then most would agree that is too much protein and can cause problems later on. Most common feeding regimen is an alfalfa-based pellet and fresh timothy hay. If your breeder was feeding a timothy-based pellet then the fresh...

    Litter training?

Yes! Most of mine are trained to pee in a baking pan turned pee area filled with shavings. As mentioned above, use some soiled shavings mixed in with new to give a familiar scent to them in the pan, and typically they will get the hang of it in a few days to weeks. If you have wire bottoms, they...

    Silly question about dust.....

I did some research on this. Blue Cloud in containers: Petco: 13oz container for $4 = $5/pound plus tax and gas to get there Petsmart: 3 pound container for $10.49 = $3.50/pound plus tax and gas In comparison, based on Snickers' prices last summer (not sure if they are the same....I do think...

    Silly question about dust.....

Thanks Nan, you should have been there as people were asking about dust! Maybe the next show you can sell dust!

    Silly question about dust.....

Where are you located? How much dust do you go through? You should consider PMing Snickers on here and she can tell you the rates.

    Silly question about dust.....

I want to add that you're way overpaying for the container, label and overhead. It is considerably less expensive to buy from local breeders or from members online like Snickers. But yes. Exact same lovely dust....though I do recall there was a thread awhile back about people complaining that...

    DESPERATE for Chin advice

I only feel safe flying chins in winter. That length of travel time is concerning. I personally wouldn't keep my chins in carriers on a plane that long. A car is one thing, a plane....so many temperature fluctuations and other stressors out of your control that could lead to chin death.
