    Adjusting to new cage?

It depends with mine... When I rearrange the boys' cage, they're eager to explore every new thing. But when I just cleaned Suki's cage and added a couple of flower pots (without moving anything else in her cage), she got all surly and unfriendly until she was more used to it. I really think...

    Question About Pellets...

Bah, that's disappointing. But thanks for the info. I was just curious.

    Question About Pellets...

Would pellets, as long as they are in a dry, cool, airtight container, actually go bad or stale? I would think that if they are dry, they can't mold or otherwise rot. If they're cool, volatile compounds in the feed (such as some fatty acids) are less likely to "evaporate" off. If it's in an...

Are your chins fat enough to roll?

Holy cow!!! 1000 grams? 1200 grams?!? Those are some huge chinnies!!! Between the two of them, ChickaChickah and Charley eat 1 lb of food a week... I can't imagine what a chinnie that size would eat!!!

    Grumpy Face Contest!

You want to see a cranky chin? Here's one for ya... I can't tell if it's ChickaChickah or Charley, though... I think it's Charley... ChickaChickah is a costina type, so he has a longer face. :)

So I have to vent about this...

Students taking agriculture, in my experience, are typically not the most driven and responsible kids. My mom teaches ag, and holy cow, you would not believe... So putting them in charge was perhaps a bad idea. It was really wrong for the teacher to not educate himself on the care of...

    May get FN

The can rust a little bit... I just bought a used one off of CL. The people who had it before used it for ferrets and power-washed it every week... All of the hardware was rusty, and some of the weld points, but that's okay. I contacted Midwest and they sell the FN harware package separately...

    The best buy

My FN! (even though we don't have it "up and running" yet...) And Oxbow pellets! My boys grew so much after switching them!!!

    Pellets and PDZ.

Or if you have an ACE hardware that also has a feed warehouse, or a Conoco with a feed store...although, the Conoco/feed store combo may only exist in Montana...

    Pellets and PDZ.

I just started using the PDZ about a month ago for my boys (and now for Suki...poor girl hand the chinchilla "dust" that came with the dusthouse...some people). I love what it does!!! Before, I was using the Kaytee dust (some people indeed...), and it worked okay, but I really wanted to get...

Suki Takes CC Like a Champ!

There's nothing wrong with her, I'm just worried about her weight being so low and her refusal to eat the pellets. So right now, the CC is to supplement her mostly hay diet. She also has a bit of a hunchback...I'm not sure if that's from malnutrition or if it's just a strange way that she...

Suki Takes CC Like a Champ!

So, today I picked up some Critical Care for my new girl Suki. She's been eating her hay, but hasn't really been eating her pellets. Her not eating has kinda made me concerned. I wasn't really expecting her to take Critical Care at all and was expecting a huge fight/mess, but it was pretty...

    Critter Nation/Ferret Nation question?

I just got an FN, and I'm going to keep the "levels" rather than remove the middle pan to have one big, open cage. The boys' "Daddy" is a little paranoid about them falling the whole height of the cage. So, the middle pan stays (for me, at least).

Was Hoping for a Good Supply...

So, I found this website that makes little wood pieces that would be GREAT for toys: http://www.craftparts.com/index.php Problem: The woods that they use are (white) birch, maple, and oak. Birch is on some safe lists, but not on others, and it seems that maple and oak are not on any safe...

    I Accidentally Rescued a Chinchilla...

I was just looking around for the meaning... The literal Japanese meaning is "to like"...so it's a verb. The more liberal/logical name translation is "beloved". :)

A few questions regarding fleece, cages, and health.

As for fleece, I just found some clearance fleece blankets at K-Mart for $3.00. They're 60"x60", so are almost equal to buying two yards of fabric (which would usually run roughly $14-$24). So, moral of the story: Always check clearance at your local Target, K-Mart, or Wal-Mart.

    I Accidentally Rescued a Chinchilla...

So, I spent this weekend up at my dad's. On the way home on Tuesday night, I took a side trip through Rochester on my way back to school to pick up an FN from somebody who was selling it on CL. Well, I made the mistake of saying to myself, "hey, as long as I'm going through Rochester, what...

    Bedding

I've used CareFresh, KD pine, and just bought Sunseed's Fresh World bedding to try it out... Anyone used that at all? It's a paper bedding, a lot like CareFresh, but is in a soft pelleted form instead of paper "lumps". I really like the paper-based beddings, though, at least until I get my...
