This link was posted in the Chins section..

I was contacted by a rescue in Central Florida tonight about this raid/bust. We are looking at HUNDREDS of hedgehogs needing homes. I'm sure we can get railroads out to just about anywhere the weather will allow.

If ANYONE can help with homes, railroads.. anything! Please let us know! These quilled ones need us!

There are also other breeds needing homes such as chins, coatimundi, ferrets, gerbils, hamsters, feeder mice, Opossum, Prairie Dogs, rats, sloths, squirrels (spotted and flying), sugar gliders and wallaby. If you know of rescues in your area for these other breeds please forward them the information.

Hedgehog Welfare Society is going to be helping handle the placement of the hedgehogs. They are in contact with the authorities who are dealing with this and are in the process of organizing help and placement for these hedgies.

If you can help by taking in a hedgehog, donating bedding, dishes, cages or money etc, you can contact Sheila, [email protected] or Cyndy, [email protected]. If you aren't a HWS member, mention you saw this on CnH so they know why you are contacting them.

email sent! I can help with a RR if needed.

(I just realized I didn't type anything in the subject line of my email. Doh!)

Pm'd you. I'd love to take a flyer or two... it's been a few years and I'd love to have another.

Also can help with chins, hamsters, and hedgies.

What a sad situation. I certainly hope these critters find loving new homes.

Gads... those poor little fuffers.

The article I was reading said a judge was determining if the animals will stay under the care of rescue/animal welfare groups or remain with their owner who's likely to be grought up on charges. What's the likelihood that, somehow, they all just stay with the badguy?

Any updates? I know the news reports mentioned that a judge will be deciding if the company gets the animals back...

Last report I saw: They are supposed to have the hearing today and then there will be a 10 day quarantine. I think the last I saw they were reporting an estimated 800 hedgehogs, maybe more.

800 hedgies... gads. I'm envisioning a boom in the wheel market.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the judge will do right by those hedgies... and others.

Haha, love the 'wheel market' comment.

I'm hoping the judge WILL do right by these animals. The whole country is watching and animal abuse cases usually attract a lot of interest and a lot of sympathy and compassion. I don't know what the laws are but I'm hoping the animals will go to rescues.

I'd take in a hedgie or 2. I graduate Sunday and will be back at home. If they had any STO's, that would be awesome too. Unfortunately I live in Illinois -_-

Too bad there aren't any reliable wheel makers in business right now. I am still waiting for mine from Sunshine Quill since last February and the Cake Walk Supreme wheels have people waiting since August.

Melissa, I can help with a railroad to get some hedgies down to you guys in central FL. Just let me know if you need me.

Thank you so much! Once we know if these animals will even be released we will get the ball rolling on what little ones are going where.

I'd like to note that anyone wanting to adopt or willing to help transport these hedgies, needs to join HWS. They are in the process of organizing the rehoming operation for the hedgehogs. If you want to adopt, an application form must be filled out.

To follow the discussion, http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/hedgehogwelfare/

Things are being organized through the Yahoo group and there is a map that you can add your location to if you can help with a train.

Contact Sheila, [email protected] Cyndy, [email protected] or Dawn [email protected] for an application to fill out.

Nanc,

Where /which post is the map under?? I cant seem to find it.

It's not under a post. It stems from an email that members of the Hedgehog Welfare Society yahoo group received... at least that's how I gained access to the map. Check out the HWS site that Nancy posted... take a look and decide if joining is right for you (they're a good group)... and go from there :)

Doh! I wasn't detailed enough in my previous post.. I have joined the group but I just can't seem to find which "post" or "email" (if you will) it is under.

Sorry I didn't provide more specific information!!! :)
