I got my mosaic at 12 weeks olld, he is 8 and has changed color every couple of years, he is almost pure white now.

my mosaic must be odd. he's darkened with age...not by A LOT but it is noticeable...He'll be a year in November.

hhmmm this is going to be very interesting to see how he turns out!! lol

I bought my female mosaic in June & I picked her up from the breeder at 6 weeks old too. People on here will give you a really hard time about it but its not our fault, its the breeders decision on when they want to let their babies go. My little girl had a white spot on her side that looked like "lips" when I got her. Karleigh is now just 4 months old and her lips are gone, she has changed so much since the day I brought her home. Her grey coloring has gotten lighter but she's still cute as ever! It was so much fun to watch her change since I've got her. I took pics of her every once in a while so I could look back at her changes. Congrats on your new chin!

Ok, I know this will come off as argumentative since this is the internet and you can't hear my tone but please don't take it that way.

I'm really confused by this statement. So you're saying someone stole your money and left a chinchilla at your place? You could've chose not to purchase from that breeder, you could've asked (and even paid) the breeder to keep the chin for 2 more weeks. I don't know your situation, for all I know your breeder has a reasonable explanation and you are comfortable with said explanation but in the end you paid the money and got your chin voluntarily, so how is it not your "fault"?

I have to agree. I would not buy from a breeder that cares so little about their chins. I have myself refused to sell to someone who 'insisted' that they have the chin earlier. My thought is if they care so little about the chin to want it before it is ready to go, then I don't want my chin with them

I had never purchased a chinchilla from a breeder before this. My last chinchilla was actually from an animal livestock auction & we had her for 11 years. I went by what the breeder said. When I purchased her I was given a "Pick up" date and that was what I went by. I'm not stupid when it comes to chinchillas I just had never purchased one so young. All of mine were received as rescues that I took in. The breeder was a very reputable breeder therefore I did not second guess what they said.

& in my previous post I was not trying to pick a fight. But I was just stating that this mistake happens to many people who take their breeders word. I'm sure the mistake could end up bad. But thank goodness mine ended up healthy and happy.

You trusted a breeder to know more than you, I can understand that and I have done it myself. I think it's a bit much to say it's not your fault though. You could've researched a bit more. Not condemning you, like I said I've done something similar.

As for the OP, since she was told this information before bringing her own chin home, she can't quiet feign the same ignorance.

ETA: I wasn't trying to imply that you were picking a fight, just making sure you understood that picking a fight wasn't my intention :)

What I had researched had said both that they let chins go anywhere from 6-10 weeks that is why I didn't question the breeders choice of 6 weeks.

Gotcha. Well then I guess in your case it really wasn't much your fault lol.

My chin Magnolia is an extra dark ebony white, or maybe a dark ebony white, it's kind of hard to say for sure, but she was born very dark with just the tip of her tail white, and as she grew, she started turning whiter, here are pics of her as a baby, and at about 3 months old, I think,

i don't see it as ignorance at all. regardless the chin was going to be sold to someone. and i didn't see why it shouldn't be to someone who knows a bit more about chins than people who have not done research. and i obviously was a good choice because little freedom has been doing great!!

Um, you lost me here. What do you not see as ignorance?

exactly what i just said. there is no need to criticize me when our chin is healthy as can be. there are absolutely no problems with him. so there is no harm done. and if we hadnt have gotten him at all then we wouldnt have such an amazing addition to our family.

i understand your concern completely, but our little one is healthier than ever and obviously us getting him at 6 weeks had no impact in jeapordizing his health. and boy does that fur ball have personality already!!

going back to the topic of this thread, i cant wait to see how much his pattern will change. i really hope he gets darker.

Just from these pictures you can see how she has changed over the past few months. she is four months old now & is a little lighter except for her dark grey spots.

so cute!! lol i love that tiny little dot she has in the last picture.
is it ever possible for a chin as white as ours to become a standard grey??
so far little freedom seems to be getting darker. his spots on his back are
becoming more noticeable. but we don't want him to go standard grey either lol.

of course if he does we will still love himss. lol ^_-

I have a mosaic that right now looks like a standard gray (almost). He is 10 days old. Half his tail is white and his front paws are white and his belly is white. The rest is gray. However if you look to the skin you will see white. So with the white tail/paws and white in the roots, I know he will be a mosaic. Probably in a years time, he will be very white. That is why mosaic can be so much fun watching
