Hi everyone! I am super excited because I found a pet insurer that covers chins! I am sorry if this is repetitive and if it was common knowledge but I thought I would share. The insurer is VIP and covers all US licensed Veterinarians! My babies are insured for 11$ a month and they cover up to 90% of costs! heh. i swear i dont work for them ...it sounds like it thought

Is that $11 per chinchilla? I have had their site bookmarked for awhile and I've been meaning to call but haven't gotten around to it.

Looks like a lot of things are not covered and you only get a small amount of money toward each specific thing that could go wrong? Like they only cover $50 for teeth problems. I just skimmed it, but that is what I got from it anyway.

It is 11 per chin yeah. I mainly got it because my vet has a large co pay and they will pay most of it each time... so for me it is worth it anesthestia, x rays to check on the malocclusion, as well as blood work for any infections or issues like that. I suppose it changes from person to person

Well that is good, I forgot about just regular old copays. How much do they cover on x rays? Do they ask about the health of the animal first- or could I- let's just say if I had a chin with Malo- then buy the insurance? Thanks!

Pet insurance is such a good idea if it is actually helpful to the petowner. I'll have to look into it. Vet bills for the more exotic pets can become so expensive. I wonder if they have insurance for birds?...Thanks for mentioning the insurance, I'll check it out and see if it is worthwhile.

Thanks for posting the info, I never thought that a chinchilla would be covered for a pet insurance policy. I would have to run some numbers to see if this would be beneficial for me (I have 2 chins). The last few months of last year, I was running back and forth from the vet due to my previous chin's malo. I'm going to go and take a deeper look into the policy, thanks.

if you go onto the website, VPI pet insurance, they have a breakdown of how much they cover for each procedure like x rays and stuff. They asked me about the health of my chin, but it didn't change the price (even though she has had malo issues). The nice thing is, they guarantee the monthly fee never changes! even if your chin is chronically ill!

Wow, that is pretty good. I guess it is more of a peace of mind thing, and it lets you allocate the money better instead of getting a huge bill one day. I guess it is good for some people, obviously not me with 100 chins- lol, although, how would they be able to tell the difference? I could just have one of each sex and color..haha. JK

 I think your onto something, lol, JK too! With health insurance for us humans skyrocketing, makes me wish I was a chin, lol.

Hahaha... It's interestinig! Dumn, my two boys are different colors (grey and white) and four girls are all differnt, too (violet, ebony, sapphire, and hetro beige). I guess that I can say "light grey" for the color of all my girls. They are about same age!!!
No... I am just joking...

What's the worse they can do? Cancell you?
I'm sure there's no government agency investigating "pet insurance" fraud!
As long as the Vet uses the same color on the paperwork - - - -

Maybe not for my chins...

Hi again. I looked into their coverage policy, but it may not be worth it. Coverage for each condition is small, and they include many conditions that seem unlikely that chins would get (?).
Also, I don't see conditions that I want them to be covered, such as heat stroke, neurological problems, fracture of ribs or SPINE (scary), simple cold, teeth alignment problems... so on and so forth. So, I don't think that I will get it...:hmm: What do you think?
