I've seen so many post pics of new kits and pardon my gooberness for asking what you mean when you say "X1" or whatever letter and number.
Can you let me in on this little code?

This is the standard way of record keeping when it comes to breeding - mostly used for pedigrees. X just stands for 2009 babies. X1 would be the first kit born from a particular breeder - X35 would be the 35th kit born in 2009, to that particular breeder. Next year, the letter is Z. We have ranch brands to distinguish who the breeders are on a pedigree - so for instance, my first kit from this year was MTDY X1. Hope this helps.

I am so glad someone else asked this question. I was wondering the same thing!!

I tried and tried to figure it out...I thought maybe the letters signified a certain color or mutation, but looking at the posts, that didn't make sense. I finally did figure out that it probably stood for the year, but just wanted clarification.

Another question to add: Is using the letter and number just something that folks on this forum do, or is it a pretty standard code throughout breeders?

Yep, it makes it easier to keep track of how many kits we have born each year, and how old chins are, etc.
