Awesome pics Laurie! So much better than the pics I got at the York show in '07. How'd Bron do? And what about Baby L?
can someone explain a bit how shows work? do the participants need to be bred in a certain way? i know nothing about gizmo's parents and their genes but in the future i'd love to attend one of these! whats the closest to texas?
Any chinchilla can be enterred in a show. Most chins (not all, but most) are prepped for the month preceding the show. Daily dustbaths, grooming, etc. Then, you go, and register your chin with as much of the information as possible. I think all you really need, though, is age and gender. If you don't know who the breeder is you can put down your own name, but they don't generally look at the names until the end (so there's no favoritism). All the chins go into cages like you saw, and get "classified". Meaning all the whites are grouped together, ebonies, greys, etc. Then, they start judging males against the other males of its color, females against the other females of its color. Then the highest from each color class(the grey color class male, white male, etc) goes against the other tops of the same sex until you have the winners. It's a long day, but it's exciting to watch and see. The judges will also make comments as to why "a" chin was better than "b" chin or "c" chin.
If I missed anything or forgot anything, please correct me. I've only been to two shows! Haha
