See that first chin in cage 1B in the baby derby? I WANT that chin. She was so very friendly and a pretty silver looking mosaic. But she was so friendly and we bonded right away (at least I did). I had a great time and Laurie, you forgot to post pictures of me doing my Elvis impersonation. We all know it was the highlight of the show.

omg these are great pics! and i got choked up by seeing baby lisa chin's tail-its so sentimental!
but how did you dye it, and is it permanent?

can someone explain a bit how shows work? do the participants need to be bred in a certain way? i know nothing about gizmo's parents and their genes but in the future i'd love to attend one of these! whats the closest to texas?

At the beginning of each show, before I know who has what number sequence I always pick out my "winner"! And here is he is! A violet, who made the final show table of course, just didn't win Grand Champ--in my eyes he did though LOL!

He is SO stinking cute! a violet bred by Brenda Walter. Say what you want everyone, but I just LOVE those violet chins!!!!

Awesome pics Laurie! So much better than the pics I got at the York show in '07. How'd Bron do? And what about Baby L?

Any chinchilla can be enterred in a show. Most chins (not all, but most) are prepped for the month preceding the show. Daily dustbaths, grooming, etc. Then, you go, and register your chin with as much of the information as possible. I think all you really need, though, is age and gender. If you don't know who the breeder is you can put down your own name, but they don't generally look at the names until the end (so there's no favoritism). All the chins go into cages like you saw, and get "classified". Meaning all the whites are grouped together, ebonies, greys, etc. Then, they start judging males against the other males of its color, females against the other females of its color. Then the highest from each color class(the grey color class male, white male, etc) goes against the other tops of the same sex until you have the winners. It's a long day, but it's exciting to watch and see. The judges will also make comments as to why "a" chin was better than "b" chin or "c" chin.

If I missed anything or forgot anything, please correct me. I've only been to two shows! Haha

Great job with the pictures! I was in a few, but only from the back and with my lab coat on so I don't have to protest the use of my image without permission. :neener:

Thank you for posting them! I was so darn busy I never took my camera out of my bag...
